49ers-Seahawks Betting Preview

The NFC West provides Thanksgiving’s NFL betting nightcap when the first-place 49ers play the second-place Seahawks Thursday night in Seattle.

San Francisco scared a few people a while back by losing three games in a row. But the 49ers are now coming off back-to-back solid wins. The Seahawks, meanwhile, just lost a game last week to the Rams.

The Week 12 NFL betting market opened the 49ers at -5.5 on the divisional road for Thursday night, with an over/under of right around 43.5. Early betting action then bumped San Francisco to -7.

49ers-Seahawks Betting Preview

San Francisco owns back-to-back wins after disposing of Tampa Bay last Sunday 27-14. The 49ers, favored by 13.5 points, scored the first 10 points of the game and led 13-7 at the half. San Fran then scored the first 14 points of the second half to go up 27-7 but took its foot off the gas, gave up a Buccaneers score early in the fourth quarter and missed out on the cover.

The 49ers out-gained Tampa 420-287 and won the turnover battle 2-0.

Two weeks ago, San Francisco snapped a three-game losing skid with an impressive 34-3 win at Jacksonville.

The Niners started 5-0 this season, then lost three straight to the Browns, Vikings, and Bengals. A missed field goal cost them against Cleveland, but they got outplayed by Minnesota and Cincinnati.

At 7-3 overall, San Francisco now sits in the No. 3 spot in the NFC playoff standings, one game behind No. 2 Detroit.

Meanwhile, Seattle is coming off a tough 17-16 loss at the Rams last Sunday. The Seahawks scored the first 13 points of the game and led 16-7 well into the fourth quarter. But Seattle gave up the last 10 points over the last seven minutes and missed a long field goal at the buzzer to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

The Seahawks did, however, hang on for the cover at +1.5.

Seattle out-gained Los Angeles 291-267 but only managed 68 yards on the ground and got called for 130 yards worth of penalties!

Two weeks ago, the Seahawks beat Washington 29-26. Three weeks ago, they were defeated at Baltimore 37-3. So Seattle is 1-2 both SU and ATS its last three times out.

At 6-4 overall, the Seahawks sit in the No. 6 spot in the NFC playoff standings, one game behind No. 5 Dallas and a half-game ahead of No. 7 Minnesota.

On the injury front, Seattle’s banged-up on offense - QB Geno Smith (elbow) is listed as questionable for Thursday - and in the secondary. If Geno can’t go, backup Drew Lock (8-13 as an NFL starter) gets the call. Meanwhile, San Francisco is listing two starting O-linemen as questionable. But it’s definitely "advantage: 49ers" in the injury department, which probably accounts for the early line movement.

Common Opponents

These two teams have played four common opponents so far this season, the Rams, Cardinals, Browns, and Bengals. San Francisco played those foes to 2-2 SU, 1-3 ATS, and -12 yards per game, Seattle to 2-3 SU, 1-3-1 ATS, and -1 YPG.

49ers-Seahawks Recent History

San Francisco swept three games from Seattle last season, taking the two regular-season meetings by scores of 27-7 and 21-13, then winning an NFC wild-card game 41-23.

The ‘Niners out-rushed the Seahawks in all three of those games by an average margin of 180-70 and covered at -8, -3, and -10.

49ers at Seahawks Free NFL Betting Pick

San Francisco ranks 3rd in the League in total offense and 5th in defense; Seattle ranks 18th in offense and 23rd in defense. The 49ers are also the healthier team, which is becoming more important each week. Finally, San Fran beat the Seahawks three times last season by an average score of 30-14. Sounds about right to us. We’re giving the points Thursday night with the ‘Niners.
