Tulane-Memphis Betting Preview

The Green Wave surfs a three-game winning streak into Friday night after beating UAB two weeks ago 35-23. Tulane then had last week off.

The Wave, favored by 22 points over the Blazers, came out sluggish and trailed 20-7 late into the second quarter. Tulane pulled to within 20-14 at the half, finally took the lead for good early in the third but didn’t put the game away until very late and came up way short ATS.

The Green Wave produced 448 yards of total offense, including 264 on the ground, but gave up 434 yards of UAB offense. Tulane also turned the ball over twice, resulting in seven Blazers points.

Two games ago the Wave beat Nichols State (FCS) 36-7 but came up way short ATS at -38. Three games ago they won at Southern Miss 21-3 and covered at -9.

Tulane returned 14 starters this season from the team that won the AAC championship and the Cotton Bowl last season. But so far this season the Green Wave seem to be under-performing just a bit.

Meanwhile, Memphis bounced back from a loss at Missouri to beat Boise State two weeks ago 35-32. The Tigers then also had last week off.

Memphis, favored by three points over the Broncos, gave up the first 14 points of the game and still trailed 17-14 deep into the third quarter. But on the play of the game the Tigers blocked a Boise State field goal and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown. Memphis later went up two scores and hung on from there.

The Tigers produced 448 yards of offense but gave up 519 yards of Broncos offense.

Memphis opened this season with wins over Bethune-Cookman (FCS), Arkansas State and Navy. The Tigers then lost at Missouri 34-27.

Memphis only returned 12 starters this season from a team that played 7-6 last season.

Tulane at Memphis Free College Football Pick

Tulane got caught napping a bit last time out against UAB. We expect a sharper performance from the Green Wave Friday night. Meanwhile, Memphis needed a blocked kick return for a score to win last time out. We consider the Tigers good candidates for a letdown here. Also, Tulane beat Memphis comfortably last year - that game wasn’t as close as that final score might indicate - and not all that much has changed since then. We’re riding the Green Wave Friday night.
