The following is a closer look at a few of the top contenders to win the ACC this season based on odds provided by GTbets as well as the odds for all the teams to win the conference.

Clemson Tigers

  • Odds to win the ACC Atlantic Division +100
  • Odds to win the ACC Championship +200
  • Odds to win a BCS Championship +3000

Clemson went 11-2 overall and 7-1 in conference play last season but one of those losses was to Florida State, which cost it a shot at playing for an ACC title. This season the two teams clash on Oct.19 in South Carolina and a different result will most likely result in a title shot this time around.

The Tigers lost 1000-yard rusher Andre Ellington from that squad but they will be counting heavily on quarterback Tajh Boyd to carry the load for the passing game and a good chunk of the rushing attack after throwing for 3,896 yards and 36 touchdowns in 2012 while running for an additional 514 yards and 10 scores. Clemson returns seven starters on defense including most of its front seven.

Florida State Seminoles

  • Odds to win the ACC Atlantic Division +100
  • Odds to win the ACC Championship +200
  • Odds to win a BCS Championship +3000

The Seminoles were one of the top favorites to win a national title before the start of the 2012 season, but the best they could do was win the ACC after a stunning loss to NC State knocked them out of the BCS picture. They finished the season 7-1 in the ACC and 12-2 overall after losing to Florida late in the season.

The main problem that Florida State faces in getting back to the top of the conference is finding replacements for the 11 starters that are missing from last year's team. Clint Trickett is expected to get the nod at quarterback for the departed EJ Manual but that is not set in stone. The Seminoles will undoubtedly have growing pains from breaking- in an entirely new defensive line and most of their linebacking corps.

Miami Hurricanes

  • Odds to win the ACC Coastal Division +200
  • Odds to win the ACC Championship +500
  • Odds to win a BCS Championship +4000

Miami has spent the last two seasons on the sidelines when it came to postseason play due to self-imposed sanctions and still faces the possibility of further penalties from the NCAA that could affect this season's eligibility. Nonetheless, this team continues to press on with a solid recruiting class and 20 starters back from last year's team that went 5-3 in the ACC and 7-5 overall.

The Hurricanes finished the 2012 season ranked 25th in the nation in passing led by quarterback Stephen Morris, who returns for his senior year. They will also have running back Duke Johnson back after leading the team in rushing with 947 yards on 139 carries last year. Miami's defense had its issues last season, but another year's experience with the bulk of this unit intact should help improve upon the 30.5 points a game it gave up in 2012.

The Rest of the Conference

The odds for a few of the next best contenders to win the ACC this season include Virginia Tech at +600, North Carolina at +700 and Georgia Tech at +850.

The odds for the rest of the teams in the ACC are as follows; Virginia is listed at +4000, followed by Maryland at +5500, NC State at +6500, Boston College at +8000, Duke at +12000 and Wake Forest at +14000.
