After rallying late to take Game 1 of this World Series Friday night, the Rangers shoot for the 2-0 lead when the teams meet for Game 2 Saturday night in Arlington.

Game 2 Betting Odds

The Game 2 betting market opened Texas at around -160 over Arizona, with an over/under of 8.5. Early betting action then raised the Rangers to -165.

Game 2 Betting Preview

Texas grabbed the opener of this World Series Friday night 6-5 in 11 innings. The Rangers led 2-0 early, trailed 5-3 late but got a two-run homer from Corey Seager in the bottom of the ninth to tie it and a solo homer from Adolis Garcia in the bottom of the 11th to win it.

Texas won Friday as a -150 post-time favorite, and the game played over a total of 8.5 - with two outs to spare.

With Friday’s win, the Rangers are now 10-3 this postseason, Arizona 9-4.

Texas finished six games ahead of the Diamondbacks in the regular-season standings, but Arizona took the short season series from the Rangers three games to one.

Game 2 Pitching Match-Up

Montgomery is 2/4 on quality starts this postseason, to go along with one appearance in relief. Monday he was called upon to hold Houston scoreless through 2 1/3 innings in that Game 7 ALCS clincher for Texas. And so far in these playoffs, he’s allowed seven runs - six earned - and 28 hits through 25 innings.

The Rangers only played 4-7 with Montgomery after acquiring him in that deadline trade with St. Louis, but that wasn’t his fault. And they’re 3-1 with him this postseason.

Montgomery actually made two starts against Arizona this season, a bad one while with the Cardinals back in April and a good one for the Rangers in August. On the whole he allowed seven runs and 14 hits through 12 innings.

Kelly is 1/3 on quality starts this postseason. Monday he held Philadelphia to one run and three hits through 5 1/3 innings of a 5-1 Diamondbacks NLCS victory. And so far in these playoffs, he’s allowed five runs and nine hits through 17 innings.

Arizona played 16-14 with Kelly during the regular season, and it’s 2-1 with him this postseason.

This will be Kelly’s first start against Texas since 2020, and that’s already a long time ago.

Splits With the Sticks

Arizona batted .251 against left-handed pitching this season, with a .317 team OBP and a .394 team slugging percentage.

Texas slashed .261/.334/.456 against right-handed pitching.

The Bullpens

The Rangers bullpen posted a 4.77 ERA this season, along with a 1.27 WHIP and a 2.76 K/BB ratio.

The Diamondbacks pen put up a 4.22 ERA, a 1.30 WHIP, and a 2.47 K/BB ratio. But this unit blew Game 1.

MLB Betting Trends

Arizona played 41-40 on the road this season and 28-21 against left-handed starters.

Texas played 50-31 at home and 62-56 against right-handed starters.

Totals Report

The unders played 84-69 in Diamondbacks games this season.

The overs played 81-69 in Rangers games.

The overs played 46-28 at Globe Life Field this season.

The overs are 4-1 in D’Backs-Rangers games this season.

Arizona at Texas Game 2 Moneyline Pick

Our thinking on Game 2 is the same as Game 1; the pitching match-up is very close, as is the bullpen comparison, while Texas owns the edge with the sticks. But that does not equate to so high a line. We liked the betting value with Arizona in Game 1 and got within two outs of cashing in. We still like the value with the Diamondbacks for Game 2.
