MLB Betting Preview

Milwaukee just lost two of three games at home to Pittsburgh over the weekend, losing Sunday's series rubber match 6-5 in 10 innings. The Brewers led that game early 2-0, fell down 5-3, tied the score at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning but eventually lost it in extra frames.

Milwaukee took a hit as a -190 betting favorite Sunday. Earlier last week, the Brewers took two of three games from the Cubs; just before that, they took two of three from St. Louis; and just before that, they took another two out of three from the Cubbies. At 8-7 overall, Milwaukee sits in second place in the NL Central, one game behind Cincinnati. On the injury front, the Brewers are playing without three regulars, with OFs Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain and IF Kolten Wong all on the DL with various ailments. San Diego, meanwhile, just lost two of three games at home to rival Los Angeles over the weekend, avoiding the sweep by winning Sunday's series finale 5-2. The Padres actually trailed early Sunday 2-0, tied it with single runs in the fourth and seventh, then won it with three in the eighth. San Diego cashed in as a +115 home dog Sunday. Earlier last week, the Padres split four games with Pittsburgh, and just before that, they swept three games from Texas. At 10-7 overall, San Diego sits in second place in the NL West, 3.5 games behind the division-leading Dodgers.

Monday's Pitching Match-Up

Musgrove is 2/3 on quality starts this season for his new team, one of which was a no-hitter two turns back. He opened by throwing six innings of shutout ball in a 7-0 San Diego win over Arizona. He then tossed a near-perfect game against Texas, throwing nine hitless innings, walking none while striking out 10, in a 3-0 Padres victory. And last time out, last Wednesday, Musgrove allowed one run and four hits through four innings against the Pirates, although the Padres lost that game 5-1. So San Diego is 2-1 with Musgrove this year. Over five career starts against Milwaukee while with Pittsburgh, including one losing effort last year, Musgrove allowed 20 runs and 33 hits through 29 1/3 innings. The Pirates played 2-3 in those five games. Woodruff is also 2/3 on quality starts this season. He opened by giving up three runs in four innings against Minnesota, although the Brewers rallied to win that game 6-5 in extra innings. He then tossed seven innings of one-hit, shutout ball in a 4-2 Milwaukee win over the Cubs. Last Tuesday, he held the Cubbies to one run through six frames, although the Brewers lost that game 3-2. So Milwaukee is 2-1 with Woodruff this season. In two career starts against San Diego, both in 2019, Woodruff allowed four runs and seven hits through eight innings. The Brewers split those two games.
