Seattle: Erasmo Ramirez (4-4, 4.73 ERA)
Tampa Bay: Austin Pruitt (6-3, 5.07 ERA)

Erasmo Ramirez gets the nod for the Mariners in the first game of this series and in his last outing he was solid not giving up any earned runs and only allowing three hits, but the bullpen fell apart in the 6-3 loss to the L.A. Angels. He has only made three starts for the Mariners since coming to them in a trade with the Rays. The Mariners won Ramirez’s first start where he gave up two earned runs in only three innings, but have lost his last two and in the start previous to his last one he gave up five earned runs in five innings. Ramirez pitched for the Mariners from 2012-2014 and in that time was 1-0 with an ERA of 2.16 against the Rays.

Austin Pruitt goes for the Rays tonight and in his last start he gave up three earned runs in six innings in a 4-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians. The Rays have lost three of his last four outings, including his last two, where he has gone 23 innings and given up nine earned runs. Pruitt faced the Mariners earlier this season out of the bullpen and was tagged up for three earned runs in one inning in a 7-1 Tampa Bay loss. Pruitt has four starts since joining the rotation and is 1-2 with an ERA of 3.47. In his four starts this season the Rays have only given him seven runs of support.

Seattle Mariners vs. Tampa Bay Rays Prediction

The Mariners have won their last two games after dropping five in a row. They are well out of the AL West race, but are still in the Wild Card 1.5 games out of the 2nd spot. The Rays are reeling, as they have lost two in a row and six of their last seven games. They are now in a three-way tie with the Blue Jays and Orioles in the basement of the AL East 10.5 games back of the Boston Red Sox. Like the Mariners Tampa Bay is still in the Wild Card race three games out. The Rays have only scored 15 runs in their last six games, with six coming in the lone win in that span, and they have scored the fewest runs in the bigs since the All Star break. Ramirez was solid in his last outing and he will have another good one tonight facing the team that dealt him. Pruitt will also have a pretty good outing, but still going with the Mariners since they have the lineup while the Rays are really struggling to score runs. Seattle will take this game and win their 3rd in a row.
