Spain failed to win in the Iberian derby against Portugal in the World Cup opener. The two teams were stuck at a spectacular 3-3 draw that didn't hurt any of the two. Spain will now face the easiest team in the group, Iran, on Wednesday. Iran might be the weakest team in the group, but they pulled somewhat of an upset in the first match. Despite not being very good, they eventually took all three points thanks to a late own goal by Morocco.

Who would have thought that Iran would be leading the group ahead of Spain, Portugal, and Morocco? Well, it has happened, and the reality is that Iran lead their group. It took a lot of luck in order to do so, as they pretty much didn't deserve even a draw point from that match. They were blatantly wasting time throughout the entire second half and were bad overall. However, they disarmed Morocco's attacks and held strong until the end of the match. Iran didn't score the winning goal. It was Morocco who scored an own goal after a set piece at the stoppage time of the game. Iran will now play even more defensively against Spain, in an attempt to maybe steal another point.

On the other hand, Spain was tormented by Cristiano Ronaldo in the opener, who scored a nice hat trick. They had some tough luck as they conceded a penalty kick at just the 4th minute of that match, but Diego Costa pulled even at the 24th. Portugal took the lead once again at the 44th minute, but Spain overturned the lead in their favor with goals at the 55th and 58th minute. Even so, Cristiano Ronaldo had the last laugh when he scored a direct free kick at the 88th minute and tied the match at 3-3. The hardest game for Spain is now over, and they will look to get maximum points from their remaining matches against Iran and Morocco.
