Schalke at RB Leipzig Free Pick - Betting Odds
The Bundesliga is restarting after almost a month of inactivity, and the small break is bound to have affected the teams. There are huge match-ups coming our way this weekend, and one of them is between hosts RB Leipzig and visitors Schalke on Saturday, January 13th. RB Leipzig were actually in really bad form right before the break, and they will surely have used the time to regroup. Schalke have been in stunning form, and the break did not come in a good timing for them, as it might have killed their momentum.
RB Leipzig (8-5-4) were struggling a lot right before the winter break, as they were on a five match win-less streak in all competitions (0-3-2). They have been really streaky this season, as prior to that streak they were undefated in four. Anyhow, in their most recent match for the Bundesliga on Devember 17th they suffered a really bad loss at home against the visiting Hoffenheim. Their opponents were playing with 10 men on the pitch, but they managed to take a three-goal lead by the 51st minute. All RB Leipzig could do was cut their opponents' lead down to one goal for the final 3-2. They are now sitting at the 5th spot of the Bundesliga with 28 points, just as many as Gladbach, Bayer Leverkusen and Dortmund. This is an insane season for the Bundesliga, with seven teams having between 26 and 30 points.
On the other hand, Schalke (8-3-6) are having a really strong season so far, as they entered the winter break at the 2nd spot of the Bundesliga with 30 points. League leaders Bayern Munich might already be eleven points ahead, but the 2nd spot is a really solid accomplishment for Schalke. In their last competitive match they overcame Koln by 0-1 in the round of 16 of the German Cup, and prior to that they were held to a 2-2 draw on the road against Frankfurt. They entered the winter break having gone undefeated in their last fourteen matches in all competitions (8-0-6), and the break might have slowed them down a little bit. Schalke have been quite strong on the road so far (3-2-3), where they have also recorded a couple of wins in the Cup. They are now undefeated in their last six road matches in all competitions, having scored in all of them.
Schalke at RB Leipzig Prediction
The two teams last met in the premiere of the Bundesliga this season, where Schalke prevailed by an easy 0-2 at home. However, that was their first win over RB Leipzig (1-1-1), who had won by 1-2 here last season, before a 1-1 on the road. Usually when breaks like this happen, the teams who were underperforming are now going to play better, while teams who were doing good might stutter. I will have to go with my hunch, and back the home team here.
