Free NHL Betting Picks for March 8

This Saturday's schedule in the NHL is jam-packed with action for anyone who loves to wager on the games, but I narrowed things down to my top three picks that you can take to the bank.

Saturday, March 8th
Philadelphia Flyers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
Money Line: OFF
Total Line: OFF
The Flyers find themselves in the thick of the playoff race in the East with a 7-1 record in their last eight games. The common theme in most of these contests has been the ability to light the lamp with a total of 30 goals including six against Washington in Wednesday night's victory as 132 home favorites. The total has now gone OVER in five of their last seven games.
Toronto went into the Winter Olympics' break with a 5-1 record in its previous six games, but the rust from the layoff continues to linger with just one win in its last four games. This past Wednesday the Maple Leafs skated past the Rangers 3-2 in overtime with Jonathan Bernier manning the goal. While he stopped 95 percent of the shots he faced against New York, he has allowed seven goals in losses to the Islanders and Montreal in two previous starts.
Look for Philadelphia to exploit this rust with another big offensive effort this Saturday night. While a play on the OVER could be one way to go, but I would take advantage of an anticipated favorable moneyline on the Flyers.

Boston Bruins vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
Money Line: OFF
Total Line: OFF
Boston continues to build its lead in the Atlantic Division with three-straight dominant wins by a combined score of 13-4. Tuukka Rask pitched a shutout in the Bruins' 3-0 victory over Washington this past Thursday night. This was a welcomed sight after getting shelled in a 4-2 loss to the Capitals last Saturday in his first start since the Olympics. Boston continues to be one of the highest scoring teams in the NHL with 3.1 goals per game.
The upheaval in Tampa Bay over its decision to part ways with it former captain Martin St Louis in a trade for Rangers' captain Ryan Callahan has spilled over to the ice with a 4-2 loss to St. Louis on Tuesday as a 168 road underdog followed by a 3-1 loss to Buffalo as a prohibitive 225 home favorite on Thursday. The Lighting are now 1-4 since coming off the break and fading fast in the Atlantic Division with a 12-point gap between themselves and the Bruins. Bank on Boston taking full advantage of the situation with a win on Saturday night.

Calgary Flames vs. Vancouver Canucks
Money Line: OFF
Total Line: OFF
It is pretty much a foregone conclusion that Calgary will not be in the playoffs this season unless it goes on a major tear in its final 20 games, but it has won two of its last three games heading into Friday night's matchup against the Islanders as a 146 home favorite on BetOnline's current moneyline. The problem I foresee in Saturday night's matchup is the fatigue factor coming into play for a mediocre team having to go on the road to play its third game in four nights.
Vancouver continues to slide down the standings in the West with just one victory in its last 12 games. Eddie Lack is the main man in goal now after the Canucks decided to trade Roberto Luongo, but he will be coming off a 6-1 shelling at the hands of Dallas this past Thursday. The offensive support has really been lacking with just five goals in Vancouver's last five games since the break. The Canucks have a good chance to steal a rare win in this one, but the top play is the UNDER on a likely total line of five.
