The red-hot Baltimore Ravens come into the Coliseum for a Monday Night Football showdown with the Los Angeles Rams. The hottest team in the league with six straight wins, the Ravens handed another frightful beating to a winning team last Sunday in a 41-7 stomping of the Texans. In fearsome form, it's up to the Rams to put a stop to it. On Sunday, they beat Chicago, 17-7—their third win in four games. Despite them never quite looking like the Rams of last season, they are still managing to have some success. They will really be tested this week.

Focusing More on ATS Performance

On one hand, you have a Baltimore team that has been on absolute fire since a lukewarm 2-2 start. Lamar Jackson is getting a lot of run in the press and rightfully so. Just in the last month or so, we see a two-touchdown win over Seattle, a 17-point win throttling of an unbeaten Patriots team, and then a flogging of the Texans last week. They strike a fearsome image. On the other hand is a Rams team that is tepid compared to what was expected, a leading preseason conference favorite sitting in third place in the NFC West.

And despite Baltimore overachieving this season and the Rams not approaching their expectations, who has delivered at the betting windows? The Rams are an astounding 7-3 against the spread this season, getting a lot of good value. And despite setting the NFL world on fire with high-flying offensive exhibitions, the Ravens are only 5-5 ATS. They have, however, covered the last four weeks and it isn’t an easy thing to take a position against them right now.

The Drawbacks of Buying High

When looking for betting value in this business, it never lies where the hype is. People see Baltimore lighting up teams that are doing even better than the Rams are now. They’re at a zenith. And since this line opened, it has predictably moved in accordance with that sentiment. And that doesn’t mean that the Ravens won’t keep right on covering the spread and pounding foes into the ground. It just means if looking for good betting value, it’s not likely to lie in the Ravens’ corner right now.

Positive Signs with the Rams

The offense hasn't achieved the same heights of 2018, and their point-totals reflect that. Some positive signs are developing, and on Sunday, both of their TDs were scored on the ground. One each by Todd Gurley and Malcolm Brown. The reemergence of Gurley that last few weeks could give this offense an edge. We see Goff struggling, and that's due in part to an O-line that took a step back this season, along with costly injuries to their receiving corps, with both Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods out of action last week. We’ll continue to look at their progress this week, as both are listed as day-to-day.

The Rams’ defense and their growth has given the team a new lease on life in light of their struggling offense. They have allowed a combined 44 points in their last four games, and the arrival of Jalen Ramsey has helped elevate the secondary and the whole defense. Baltimore will be facing some real hitters on this side of the ball, with Aaron Donald rounding into top form, along with a robust pass-rushing element at linebacker. They get after the quarterback and can pounce on mistakes with big plays. And while containing the offenses they've been thriving against and doing it against Baltimore are two different things, I think this defense might surprise some people this week.

Ravens vs. Rams Prediction ATS 11/25/19

The Rams will be facing not only a team that can provide prolific offense but will also be taking on a tough defense, to boot. But this is really an all-or-nothing spot for the Rams. This game is their biggest regular-season game in two seasons. A win puts them at 7-4, as they will be able to hang their hats on the fact that they beat the hottest team in the league. A loss has them at 6-5 where they need a ton to go their way to have a chance at the postseason. I expect that urgency not to be lost on the Rams, who hang in there with the Ravens at home on MNF.
