NFL 2017 Team Win Total Lines To Bet

The NFL offseason presses on and later in July all 32 teams will open up their summer training camps to start preparing for the 2017 regular season and a possible run to Super Bowl LII. Bovada has recently updated its moneyline odds for the “over/under” bet on each team’s projected win total this season and my job is to find the best value in the numbers.

2017 NFC Win Total Odds

The Dallas Cowboys may have the best odds on the board to win the NFC this season, but both Green Bay and Seattle have the highest projected win total at 10.5 games. The current betting odds for the Packers favor the UNDER at -130 with the moneyline odds for the OVER set at an even money +100. The early money coming in on the Seahawks likes the OVER at -135 with +105 betting odds for the UNDER.

Green Bay has only won more than 10 games once in the past four seasons and it will probably only take 10 wins to capture the NFC North title in 2017, but I would still lean towards the OVER in this bet given the better value combined with my belief that this is the best team in the NFC right now.

The competition for the NFC West Division title has really dropped off so it is pretty much a given that Seattle should end up on top again in 2017. The Seahawks have won 10 games in each of the past two seasons and I am betting on the +105 odds for the UNDER 10.5 that three times is the charm with another 10-win campaign in 2017.

The Cowboys jumped from four victories in 2015 to 13 wins last season, but the 9.5 total suggests a slight step backwards in 2017. Bettors in love with the ‘Boys have the moneyline on the OVER at -140, but the UNDER on Dallas would be my strongest NFC play at very favorable +110 betting odds. The parity across all four teams in the NFC East dictate that nine wins could easily win the division title this season; with no one team really separating themselves from the pack.

I would also go with the UNDER 9.5 on Atlanta at +105 given the Falcons’ epic failure in last year’s Super Bowl and the OVER 8.5 on the New York Giants at -160 as my pick to win the NFC East this year at 9-7.

2017 AFC Win Total Odds

New England has established itself as the best team in the AFC, but the expectation level may be a bit too high with a projected win total of 12.5. The current betting odds are set at -115 for a play either way. Winning 13 games in the NFL can be a pretty tall task for any team. We are constantly getting fed a steady stream of just how great this year’s Patriots are going to be after winning last year’s Super Bowl coming off a record of 14-2. This followed a string of four seasons in a row where this team went 12-4. When you put that big of a bull’s eye on your back, every single regular season game has chance to be a struggle which adds up to a play on the UNDER in a return to another 12-win season for New England.

Pittsburgh has the next highest win total in the AFC at 10.5 and the betting odds favor the OVER at -135 with a +105 moneyline for the UNDER. The Steelers come into this season as the best team in the AFC North and they have won 11 games in two of their last three seasons, but I still have some question marks in my book concerning a defense that was ranked 12th in the NFL in yards allowed and 16th against the pass. I penciling in Steel Town at 10-6 with a play on the UNDER.

The Oakland Raiders went 12-4 in 2016 to break a string of 13-straight seasons of winning eight games or less. Their projected win total for this season has been set at 9.5 with the betting odds leaning towards the OVER at -140. The odds they win nine or fewer games are set at +110. I happen to believe that this team is for real and clearly the best of the four in the AFC West heading into the 2017 campaign. Even with a small step backwards the Raiders should go at least 10-6 to set up a play on the OVER despite the current risk/reward in the -140 moneyline odds.

Looking at the rest of the numbers in the AFC, I like the OVER 7.5 on Miami at -115 after winning 10 games in 2016. I also like the UNDER 8.5 on Denver at -130 with the defense finally failing to carry a team that has no clear direction on the other side of ball.
