<p>
The Seattle Seahawks have been the cream of the crop in the NFC West the past few seasons with three division titles in the last four years. Their updated futures odds to remain at the top of the heap in this division at BetOnline heavily favor this dominance continuing for at least one more season.

Seattle Seahawks -260<br />
</h2>
<p>
In my book, the main reason that Seattle is such a heavy favorite to win this division is not because of all the improvements it made to its roster during the offseason. It is more a case of the rest of this division failing to close the existing gap. The Seahawks went 10-5-1 last year with the rest of the NFC West posting a losing record. Their projected win total for 2017 is set at 10.5, but nine wins would probably result in another division title.

<p>
Seattle still has one of the best defenses in the league after ranking third in points allowed last year, but its offense ranked 25th in rushing yards and 19th in scoring. The addition of running back Eddie Lacy could be a step in the right direction for the ground game, but the Seahawks’ offense is still not going to strike all that much fear into opposing teams.

<h2>
Arizona Cardinals +210<br />
</h2>
<p>
Bruce Arians could be considered an early head coach on the hot seat after the Cardinals slid to 7-8-1 last year after posting double digit victories in their previous three campaigns. Veteran quarterback Carson Palmer is back for at least one more season and Arizona’s running game features Chris Johnson backing up David Johnson on an offense that was sixth in the NFL in scoring last season with 26.1 points per game.
</p>
<p>
The Cardinals’ defense was ranked third in the league in total yards allowed, but it fell to 14th when it came to points allowed. Arians used his first two draft picks to select linebacker Haason Reddick and safety Budda Baker and he gave Palmer an added target by taking wide receiver Chad Williams in the third round. These additions should help, but it still looks like Arizona is headed for a .500 record at best.

<h2>
Los Angeles Rams +2500<br />
</h2>
<p>
Things really drop off from here given the Rams’ long odds to win a division title. This team continues to post false starts no matter where it plays its games and in its first season out on the West Coast it slid to 4-12 following a six-win season in 2015. It will be Sean McVay’s job to get this team moving forward as the new head coach, but I would not expect any miracles in 2017.
</p>
<p>
Last year the Rams were ranked dead last in the NFL in both scoring and total yards on offense and they slid to 23rd on defense when it came to points allowed. The pressure will be dialed up on second-year quarterback Jared Goff to make an immediate impact after a mostly forgettable rookie season.
</p>
<h2>
San Francisco 49ers +4000<br />
</h2>
<p>
When your projected win total is set at 4.5 it is easy to see why you have some of the longest odds on the board to win a division title. The 49ers have been in a complete tailspin since 2013 when they went 12-4 and lost the NFC Championship. With just two wins last season, the Chip Kelly experiment as head coach came to a quick end.
</p>
<p>
Offensive guru Kyle Shanahan takes over the reins at the top spot and he will have his work cut out for him when it comes to turning around a unit that was 27th in scoring and 31st in yards gained last season. This compares to a defense that was ranked last in the NFL in both total yards and points allowed.

2017 NFC West Prediction

The only question in this division race is can Arizona regain the form that led to a 13-3 record and a NFC West title in 2015, but my immediate answer would be no. There is no real value in betting on Seattle’s -260 odds to win this division, but by default I have the Seahawks remaining at the top of this division in 2017.
