Nevada's 4-2 straight-up run down the stretch helped seal a bowl berth with an overall record of 7-5. The Wolf Pack also covered in the four victories to go 7-5 against the spread as well. The total stayed UNDER in eight of the 12 games. They closed-out the regular season with a 49-27 romp against UNLV as seven-point road favorites. This offense has now averaged 35.6 points in its last three games as opposed to a season average of 31.3 points.
Look for Nevada to rely heavily on its ground game in this matchup after averaging 215.2 rushing yards per game. Quarterback Fajardo has proven to be a duel threat with 2,374 yards passing and 18 scoring throws to go along with a team-high 997 yards and 13 scores on the ground. Don Jackson also did a good job running the ball with 932 yards on 206 carries. The Wolf Pack did have some issues with a defense that allowed an average of 28.2 points a game.
The Ragin' Cajuns wrapped-up play in the regular season with a convincing 42-23 victory over Troy as 9.5-point road favorites to go 8-4 SU (6-5-1 ATS). They come into this contest with seven SU wins in their last eight games while going 5-2-1 ATS. The total has gone OVER in two of their last three games. This is another team that knows how to light-up the scoreboard with an average of 30.6 points a game.
LA-Lafayette also gained a good portion of its yards this season by running the ball with an average of 228.4 rushing yards a game. Elijah McGuire carried the load with 1,165 yards on 150 attempts for an average of 7.8 yards an attempt. He was also a big factor in the passing game with a team-high 40 receptions for another 414 yards. The Ragin' Cajuns' defense was ranked 78th in the nation in points allowed (27.9).
The Wolf Pack are 5-1 ATS away from home this season and 4-2 ATS in six games as favorites. The total has stayed UNDER in 14 of their last 18 games.
The Ragin' Cajuns have covered ATS in five of their last seven games and the total has stayed UNDER in four of their last six games.
These two last met in 1995 with Nevada winning 38-14 as a 3.5-point home favorite.
Nevada vs. LA-Lafayette Point Spread Pick
These two teams are evenly matched with very similar styles of play, but given that the current spread is just a point I am going with Nevada to win SU and cover. The Ragin' Cajuns may have the home-field edge in this game, but the overall level of play in the Mountain West makes the Wolf Pack a bit more battle-tested than their opponents.
