Utah Utes vs. Colorado State Game Overview

Utah finished fifth in the stacked Pac-12 South Division with a conference record of 5-4. It went 8-4 straight-up overall after losing three of its final five games and against the spread the Utes failed to cover in three of their last four contests. The total has stayed UNDER in eight of its last 10 games, but it did go OVER in a season-ending 38-34 victory against Colorado as seven-point road favorites.

The Utes showed some solid balance on offense this season with Travis Wilson running the show at quarterback. He threw for 2,012 yards and 17 touchdowns while completing 60.3 percent of his 287 attempts. He also showed some solid mobility with 218 rushing yards and two scores. Devontae Booker was a force running the ball with 1,350 yards on 266 carries. He also led the team in touchdowns with 11. Utah averaged 30.2 points a game while allowing 26.2 points on defense.

Colorado State is coming off a very productive campaign in which it went 10-2 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Its season did end on a sour note in a stunning 27-24 loss to Air Force as a 7.5-point road favorite and it also does not help that former head coach Jim McElwain is now with Florida. The loss snapped a SU nine-game winning streak that included a profitable 7-2 run ATS. The total stayed UNDER the 62-point closing line in that game after going OVER in the Rams' previous four contests.

This was another potent offense; averaging 35.9 points a game. The Rams did most of their damage through the air with an average of 326.3 passing yards per game. Garrett Grayson ended the regular season with 3,779 passing yards and 32 scoring strikes. Rashard Higgins was a huge target with 89 receptions for 1,640 yards and over half of those touchdowns (17). Colorado State's defense remained fairly stout all season long; allowing an average of 23.4 points a game.

Utah Utes vs. Colorado State Game Betting Trends

The Utes are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a SU winning record and they are 7-2 ATS in their last nine bowl games. The total has gone OVER in four of their last five games against a team from the Mountain West.

The Rams are 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 games following a SU loss and they are 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 games against a nonconference opponent. The total has gone OVER in their last four appearances in a bowl game.

Head-to-head in this matchup, Utah has won the last five meetings SU and it has a 4-1 edge ATS. The total has gone OVER in three of these five games.

Utah Utes vs. Colorado State Point Spread Pick

The Utes knocked-off UCLA and USC this season and they came painfully close to toppling Arizona State in overtime when the Sun Devils were ranked No. 14 in the country, so this team knows how to beat a quality opponent. The Rams' loss to Air Force has to raise some concern as well as does the fact they just lost their head coach. I see this carrying over into this game despite the long layoff so I am laying the four points in this one and jumping all over Utah to win and cover.
