Houston Cougars vs. BYU Cougars Free Point Spread Prediction

The Houston Cougars, out of the AAC and the Division IA Independent BYU Cougars will tangle with one another this Thursday night at LaVell Edwards Stadium. The kickoff for this battle of the Cougars is set for 9 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Houston at BYU Game Overview
Houston stumbled down the stretch in 2013 with four straight-up losses in its last five games. It still went 3-2 against the spread during this slide and it covered in 10 of 13 games. So far bettors have taken a beating on this year's Cougars in a 27-7 loss to Texas-San Antonio as 8.5-point home favorites and a 47-0 shutout of Grambling State as prohibitive 49.5-point favorites at home this past Saturday. The total has stayed UNDER in both of these games.
John O'Korn has taken the majority of the snaps for Houston in the first two games and he has thrown for 404 yards while completing just 52.2 percent of his throws. His favorite target by far has been wide receiver Deontay Greenberry with 11 catches for 206 yards. Kenneth Farrow has done a good job running the ball with 151 yards on 20 carries. The Cougars' defense looked much better against Grambling, but it will be tested on Thursday night after breaking down on opening day against the Roadrunners.

BYU has gotten a fast start out of the gate in a 2-0 start both SU and ATS after going 0-4-1 ATS in its final five games last season. These Cougars covered as 15-point road favorites on opening day in a 35-10 victory over Connecticut and this past Saturday they hammered Texas 41-7 as one-point road underdogs. The total stayed UNDER against the Huskies and it ended as a PUSH in the game against the Longhorns.
Taysom Hill was the difference in the romp over Texas with 99 yards rushing and three touchdowns in a 28-point third quarter that broke this game wide open. The versatile quarterback also threw for 181 yards while completing 18-of-27 passes. He has now thrown for 489 yards and three touchdowns in his first two games while adding another 196 yards and five scores with his legs. Look for a heavy dose of Hill against Houston on Thursday night in a prime-time appearance in front of a fired-up home-town crowd.

Houston at BYU Betting Trends
Houston is 5-0 ATS in its last five games as an underdog on the road and it has covered in its last six games as an underdog overall. The total has gone OVER in its four of its six games getting points.
BYU is 3-0-1 ATS in its last four home games as a home favorite and the total has stayed UNDER in four of its last five games giving points.
These two met last season and BYU came away with a 47-46 SU victory, but it could not cover as a 10-point favorite on the road. The total went OVER the 64.5-point closing line.

Houston at BYU Point Spread Pick
You have to be concerned with the way Houston started the season and last week's win does not really give us a true picture of just how good (or bad) this team really is. BYU, on the other hand, is firing on all cylinders behind Hill at quarterback. I look for the home-town Cougars to win this game with relative ease to cover the 18.5 points as the road Cougars have a tough time keeping pace.
