The Red Wolves come into this contest fresh off a 34-31 loss to Western Kentucky in their season finale as six-point road underdogs that cost them this year's Sun Belt title. They finished tied with UL-Lafayette at 5-2 straight-up in conference play, but they lost to Ragin' Cajuns 23-7 in late October in a game that closed as a PICK. The net result was a 7-5 SU mark with a 6-6 record against the spread. The total stayed UNDER in four of six roads games this year.
Arkansas State's biggest strength this season was a rushing attack that averaged 206 yards a game. Michael Gordon led the way with 717 yards and 10 touchdowns on 106 carries, but quarterback Adam Kennedy proved to be a duel threat with his arm and his legs. He threw for 2,349 yards and 11 scores while completing an impressive 69.4 percent of his passes. He chipped in another 514 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. The Red Wolves' defense could be a soft spot after allowing an average of 26.7 points a game.

Ball State's 48-27 loss to Northern Illinois as an 8.5-point road underdog on Nov. 13 ended its chances at winning the Mid-American Conference this season, but it was still a great year for this up and coming program. The Cardinals went 10-2 SU with a conference record of 7-1. They covered in six of their final nine games to post an 8-4 mark ATS. The total went OVER in eight of 12 games this season including the team's last four outings.
Look for a heavy dose of the pass from this offense behind the arm of Keith Wenning. Despite multiple injuries to his receiving corps, he still managed to throw for 3,933 yards and 34 touchdowns against just six interceptions while completing a solid 65.2 percent of his 454 attempts. The combination of Willie Snead and Jordan Williams proved to be deadly with a combined 2,445 yards and 24 touchdowns catching the ball. This offense averaged 40.1 points a game, which was the 13th highest total in the nation.

Mid-major teams such as this become much harder to handicap after an extensive layoff, but the edge in talent on both sides of the ball clearly goes to Ball State. The Red Wolves will have a difficult time keeping pace over the course of all four quarters against an offense that can almost score at will. Bank on the Cardinals covering the 8.5 points in what will be a relatively one-sided affair.
