TCU vs. Texas Game Overview

It has been a wild ride for the Horned Frogs this season and they are hoping that it is far from over. They fully realize that they need a really strong finish to work their way back into the top four of the College Football Playoff Rankings and it has to start this Thursday night. They bring a straight-up five-game winning streak into this matchup (3-2 against the spread) that includes a solid 19-point romp over Kansas State as 6.5-point home favorites followed by a costly four-point win against Kansas as heavy 27.5-point favorites on the road. The total has gone OVER in three of TCU's last four games.

The one thing that this team has consistently done all season long is put points on the board. The Horned Frogs are ranked second in the nation in scoring with an average of 45.9 points a game. Trevone Boykin has led a passing attack that is racking-up an average of 323.6 yards a game, which is the eighth-highest total in the country. Defensively, TCU has had some breakdowns along the way, but overall this unit is holding teams to 23.1 points a game.

Texas has gone on a mini three-game run both SU and ATS that includes an impressive 33-16 rout of West Virginia on Nov. 8 as a three-point road underdog. The Longhorns are 6-5 SU overall with a 7-4 record ATS. They are an even 3-3 ATS at home this season and the total has now stayed UNDER in their last four contests.

To come out on top in this year's rivalry, Texas is going to need a big night from quarterback Tyrone Swoops. He threw for 305 yards and two touchdowns two weeks ago in the Longhorns' 28-7 victory against Oklahoma State as one-point road favorites. On the year, he has passed for 2,152 yards and 12 scores with a less than stellar completion rate of 58.8 percent. Texas has also gotten a solid effort on the ground from Malcolm Brown and Johnathan Gray with a combined 1,281 rushing yards on the year.

TCU vs. Texas Game Betting Trends

The Horned Frogs are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 games and 17-8 SU in their last 25 road games. The total has gone OVER in four of their last five games played on the road.

The Longhorns have now covered in four of their last six games and they are 14-7 SU in their last 21 home games. The total has stayed UNDER in nine of their last 11 games at home.

TCU has lost three of its last four games against Texas SU and the total has stayed UNDER in the last two meetings.

TCU vs. Texas Game Point Spread Pick

Texas may have gotten the better of this matchup in recent years, but there is far more on the line this time around for the Horned Frogs. They will not have the benefit of a conference title game to draw some extra votes from the playoff committee, so they will have to paste Texas to draw some attention to this game. While this game will not be a blowout, bank on TCU covering the 6.5-point spread on the road.
