East Carolina Pirates vs. Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Odds - ATS Pick
The AAC's East Carolina's Pirates will head into Lane Stadium in Blacksburg this Saturday afternoon to face-off against the No. 17 Virginia Tech Hokies, who moved into the AP Top 25 this week after upsetting Ohio State. The kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
East Carolina vs. Virginia Tech Game Overview
The Pirates come into this game with a 1-1 record straight-up and a perfect 2-0 mark against the spread. They gave South Carolina all it could handle last week in a 33-23 loss as 14.5-point road underdogs after posting a routine 52-7 victory over NC Central as 39.5-point home favorites in their opener. The total stayed UNDER the 64.5-point closing line against the Gamecocks after going OVER in seven of their previous nine games.
Shane Carden has looked sharp throwing the ball for East Carolina with a total of 604 yards and four scores in the first two games. Justin Hardy has 19 receptions for 220 yards and two scores and Isaiah Jones has been another main target with 18 catches for 196 yards and a score. The key to getting past the Hokies will be the ability of the Pirates' defense to get off the field. South Carolina wore this unit down with an 11-minute fourth-quarter drive that sealed the win.

Virginia Tech started the season as one of the second-tier favorites to win the ACC after prohibitive favorite Florida State, but it definitely caught some attention with last Saturday's 35-21 victory over then-No. 8 Ohio State as a 10-point road underdog. Part of this has to do with the Buckeyes being way overrated, but you still have to give credit to the Hokies for such an impressive win. They are now 2-0 both SU and ATS this year after going 2-4 SU and 1-5 ATS in their final six games last season.
The Hokies are getting it done on offense behind a balanced attack that is averaging 232.5 passing yards and 173.5 yards on the ground. Michael Brewer has completed 70 percent of his 66 attempts for 450 yards and Shai McKenzie leads the team in rushing with 113 yards on 16 carries. Virginia Tech's defense also deserves some credit for last week's win three interceptions including one for a 63-yard score.
East Carolina vs. Virginia Tech Betting Trends
The Pirates have covered in 10 of their last 11 games following a SU loss and they are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against a nonconference opponent. The total has gone over in six of their last eight games against a team with a SU winning record.
The Hokies have gone just 8-19 ATS in their last 27 games following a SU win and they are 4-11-2 ATS in their last 17 games against a nonconference team. The total has stayed under in six of their last nine games played at home.
Virginia Tech has won the last four meetings SU, but the series is knotted at two games apiece ATS. The total stayed UNDER the closing line in three of the four contests.
East Carolina vs. Virginia Tech Point Spread Pick
Virginia Tech has a history of monumental letdowns in games it is supposed to win and it may be riding a bit too high after last week's win. My other take is that this remains a solid team on both sides of the ball that is well aware of what is at stake in this game. They will not take the Pirates lightly given the past history between the two so I am banking on the Hokies to come up with another solid performance on Saturday that covers the 11 points at home.
