Clemson-Syracuse Betting Odds

This week's college football betting lines opened Clemson as a 14-point road favorite for this game, with an over/under of right around 45. Early betting action was then holding both those figures pretty steady, but some alte money has come in to drive the point spread line to -13.5.

Clemson Betting Preview

The Tigers are 3-2 on the season after beating Boston College two weeks ago, 19-13. Clemson then had last week off.

The Tigers, playing as 14-point favorites two weeks ago, struck first against the Eagles on a 59-yard scoring run from scrimmage and led 13-6 at the half. Clemson then let BC tie the game on the opening possession of the second half, kicked a couple of field goals to retake the lead, then recovered an Eagles fumble just outside its own red zone in the last half-minute to secure the victory. But the Tigers came up short against that spread. Clemson out-gained Boston College 438-357, out-rushed the Eagles 231-46, and won the turnover battle 3-0. But the Tigers never really dominated the game like those numbers might indicate.

Just prior to that, Clemson lost at North Carolina State in overtime 27-21. So going back to last season's bowl loss to Ohio State, the Tigers are 3-3 SU, 0-6 ATS over their last six games.

At 2-1 in ACC play, this season Clemson trails 4-0 Wake Forest by a game and a half in the Atlantic Division race, and with two losses, it's probably out of the running for a sixth-straight appearance in the College Football Playoff.

Syracuse Betting Preview

The Orange, meanwhile, are 3-3 on the season after falling to the Demon Deacons in overtime last week 40-37. Syracuse led that game 21-10 late into the second quarter, then gave up a 24-6 Wake Forest run to fall behind by seven points. The Orange tied the game on a touchdown with 21 seconds left, kicked a field goal in the top of the OT but gave up a touchdown on Wake's second play to lose. However, most importantly, Syracuse hung on for the cover as a 5.5-point home dog.

The Orange out-gained the Demon Deacons 514-426, out-rushed Wake 354-96, and won the time of possession by a 34:26 split. But Syracuse also gave up a couple of huge pass plays defensively, failed on a 2-point conversion, and missed a key field goal in the fourth quarter that led directly to a Deacons touchdown.

Two weeks ago, the Orange lost at Florida State 33-30 on a field goal at the buzzer and covered at +5.5. And three weeks ago, they beat a good Liberty team 24-21. On the season, Syracuse has out-gained five of its six opponents and out-rushed five of six foes.

At 0-2 in ACC play, the 'Cuse is probably out of the running in the divisional race and now needs three wins over their last six games to make a bowl.

Clemson-Syracuse Recent History

The Tigers are 7-1 SU against the Orange since these teams became ACC rivals back in 2013, but Syracuse is 5-3 ATS, pulling one upset and keeping several other games close while getting bunches of points. Last year, with Clemson on its way to the CFP and the Orange struggling, the line was -47.5; the Tigers won 47-21.

Also, that game played over a total of 65.

College Football Betting Trends

So far this season, teams ranked in the Coaches Top 25 are 83-16 SU, 47-49 ATS against unranked opponents.

Totals Report

Unders are 4-1 in Clemson games this season, which are averaging just 33 total points. Totals are split 3-3 in Syracuse games, which are averaging 56 points. Unders are 6-2 over the last eight meetings between these teams, with most totals posted in the 60s.

Clemson at Syracuse Week 7 Prediction ATS

Clemson is a disappointment so far this season, struggling offensively after losing a bunch of critical people from last season. Plus, they're banged up. The CFP looks like a long shot. Syra-cuse, meanwhile, is 3-3 with a pair of three-point defeats. The Tigers won this match-up last year by 26 points and 130 yards, but this Clemson team isn't as good as that one was, while the Or-ange are improved. Finally, the Tigers have already been favored by too much three times this season. We like the Orange plus the points here.
