Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Georgia Bulldogs College Football Championship Pick - Odds
Alabama vs. Georgia Game Overview
The Crimson Tide’s only setback of the season was against rival Auburn in a 26-14 loss as five-point road favorites in the final game of the regular season. While the loss derailed their chances to play Georgia in the SEC title game, this matchup was apparently meant to be. The Tide are 6-7 against the spread as opposed to a near perfect 12-1 record straight-up and the total has stayed UNDER in eight of the 13 games.
In Monday’s 24-6 victory against Clemson as an eight-point favorite in this season’s Sugar Bowl, Alabama relied on its time-tested game plan of playing shutdown defense. The Tide only amassed 240 yards of total offense with 120 yards through the air and 120 yards on the ground, but it was efficient enough to get the job done. It was the defense that set up the bulk of the scoring with a pair of interceptions that led to two scores just 13 seconds apart in the third quarter to put this game away for good.

Georgia advanced to the SEC title game by winning seven of eight conference games to win the East Division. Its only loss on the year also came against Auburn, but that was quickly avenged with a 28-7 victory against the Tigers as a two-point favorite in the conference championship. The Bulldogs outlasted Oklahoma 54-48 in double-overtime as two-point underdogs on New Year’s Day in the Rose Bowl to earn their spot in the national title game. They come in at 13-1 SU with a 10-4 record ATS. They have now covered in their last four games.
A heavy dose of Sony Michel and Nick Chubb running the ball carried Georgia over the Sooners in one of the wildest and entertaining college football bowl games in recent memory. The two running backs combined for 326 rushing yards and five touchdowns on just 25 carries. The big concern heading into this matchup would have to be a defense that allowed 289 yards through the air and another 242 yards on the ground in that game.

With the exception of that slip against Auburn, the Tide have proven themselves to be the best team in college football this season. This does not diminish what Georgia has been able to accomplish in its highly impressive run to this title game, but I still believe the gap between these two SEC foes is wider than the current 4.5-point spread. Look for another strong showing by Alabama’s defense on Monday night to shutdown the Bulldogs’ running game in a SU win that covers ATS while also working to keep the total UNDER.
