2017 Big 10 Conference Odds

As the 2017 College Football Season nears closer, many teams will be competing to win arguably the nation’s strongest conference, the Big 10. Last year, Penn State stole the show when they won the Big 10 but failed to make the College Football Playoff when the bid was extended to a team they beat in the regular season, Ohio State. Here is our outlook of the top Big 10 favorites to win, along with our top selection as a dark horse. The betting odds to win the Big 10 this season have been provided by BetOnline.

TOP FAVORITES

OHIO STATE +125 - Coming in off a College Football Playoff bid in 2016, the Buckeyes have even higher expectations despite failing to win the Big 10. Ohio State knows how to perform at elite levels and win the games it needs to, to get to the highest stage of college football. However, Ohio State were defeated by the Big 10 champion Penn State in 2016 and came into the regular season as the household favorite to win this conference. Given the fact some forecast Ohio State as the National Champion, there is a huge propensity for a let-down. Approach with caution.

MICHIGAN +400 - The Wolverines like Ohio State are one of the most respected and admired institutions in all of college football. With such reverence often comes a premium. Michigan for the second year in a row, fell short in critical moments to re-capture a Big 10 title. Though Michigan has not been the Maize and Blue of years’ past for many years now, the level of expectation mirrors that of arch enemy Ohio State. We also suggest staying off of Michigan.

WISCONSIN +450 - Bucky plays a signature blend of football that makes them a perennial contender to vie for the Big 10 crown. Wisconsin runs first and runs often and complements this strategy with a physical and often nationally-ranked defense across many major statistical categories. The Badgers are a team that many analysts suggest are one of the best institutions in the modern era to never play for a College Football Playoff and/or National Championship. As a result, Wiscy is also a big question mark when highly touted.

TOP DARK HORSE

NORTHWESTERN +2000 - While Penn State at +500 would have been a popular pick for us given the fact they are the defending champion, we will reach deeper into bag to find an outlier with the greatest chance of shocking the Big 10. Northwestern returns seven starters from a defense that surrendered just 22.2 points per game in 2016, along with a dynamic rusher in Justin Jackson. The Cats lost their first two games by a combined three points and fell to Ohio State at The Horseshoe by just four points. If Northwestern gets off to a good start they can be a serious threat down the backstretch in the Big 10 West race. Northwestern’s campaign for the Big 10 Championship comes down to two games that might be difficult to overcome: a road trip to Wisconsin and a home game against the defending Big 10 champs, Penn State. However, Penn State may be on upset alert when they venture out to Evanston if they are not careful.
