By

Point spread: Louisville -11.5
Over/Under: OFF
An early season showdown in the AAC this Thursday night pits the No. 24 Memphis Tigers on the road against the No. 12 Louisville Cardinals at the KFC Yum! Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.
Memphis vs. Louisville Game Overview
Memphis started off its first season in the AAC with an 88-73 romp over South Florida on Dec. 31 as an eight-point road favorite, but it came out flat this past Saturday against Cincinnati in a 69-53 loss as a five-point favorite at home. The Tigers are 10-3 straight-up overall with a 6-5 record against the spread. They have failed to cover in four of their last six outings and the total has stayed UNDER in four of those games.
To get back on track with a win on Thursday night, Memphis will need a big effort from Joe Jackson and Shaq Goodwin. Jackson leads the team in scoring with 15 points a game while adding 3.5 assists and Goodwin is second in points with 12.3 and first in rebounds with 6.6. The Tigers are averaging 80.5 points a game while shooting 47.3 percent from the field, but they have struggled from outside the perimeter with a 29.2 shooting percentage from three-point range. They are pulling down 39.1 rebounds a game.

Last season's national champs have posted 13 SU victories against two defeats in defense of their title with losses coming to North Carolina and No. 14 Kentucky. The Cardinals opened conference play with victories over Central Florida and Rutgers, but after failing to cover as 15-point road favorites against the Scarlet Knights their record ATS fell to 7-6 on the year. They are 5-2 ATS at home this season and the total has gone OVER in four of six home games with a posted line.
Russ Smith was an instrumental part of last year's championship run and he has picked up where he left off with a team-high 17.7 points and 4.9 assists. Louisville has five different players averaging at least nine points a game as part of a total scoring average of 85 points. The Cardinals are shooting 47.4 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from beyond the arc. They match up well against Memphis under the boards with 39.7 rebounds a game.

Memphis vs. Louisville Betting Trends
The Tigers are 8-1 ATS in their last nine games following an ATS loss and 5-0 ATS in their last five Thursday games. The total has stayed UNDER in seven of their last nine games.
The Cardinals are 14-5 ATS in their last 19 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last five home games against a team with a SU winning record on the road.
Head-to-head in this matchup, the road team is 5-0-1 ATS in the last six meetings with the total going OVER in four of the last five games in this series.

Memphis vs. Louisville Spread Pick
This should be a good test for the Tigers, who have struggled with consistency from one game to the next. Look for a much better showing after getting embarrassed by the Bearcats, but it still will not be enough to get past Louisville on the road. Stick with the Cardinals to wear down the Tigers to get a SU win, but the play is with Memphis and the 11.5 points.
