Creighton Bluejays vs. Butler Bulldogs Point Spread Pick
Point spread: Creighton -6
The No. 18 Creighton Bluejays will go for the season-sweep against the Butler Bulldogs when these two Big East foes battle it out this Thursday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. (ET) and the game will broadcast nationally on the CBS Sports Network.
Creighton vs. Butler Game Overview
It has been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for Creighton this season with an overall straight-up record of 19-4, especially when it comes to the national rankings. It has been in and out of the Top 25 three separate times and it recently took a tumble from No. 12 after falling to St. John's 70-65 as a three-point road favorite this past Saturday. The Bluejays have failed to cover in four of their last six contests and they are 13-8 against the spread overall. They have covered in five of seven road games this season and the total has gone OVER in four of those games.
At the center of all of Creighton's success this season has been All-American senior forward Doug McDermott. He is averaging a team-high 25.3 points and 7.1 rebounds while shooting 49.9 percent from the field and 42.7 percent from 3-point range. The Bluejays are scoring 80.5 points a game and hitting a solid 48.9 percent of their shots from the floor. Ethan Wragge is the only other player averaging over 10 points (11.6), but there is still some decent depth with five additional players scoring at least six points a game.
Butler has been on a roller-coaster ride for the past three years, but it remains on the downside of things in its first season in the Big East. The Bulldogs come into this matchup with a 2-10 SU record in conference play. They will be playing their third game in six days after losing to Georgetown last Saturday and dropping a 65-50 decision to Xavier this past Tuesday as 1.5-point home underdogs. Butler is just 3-8-1 ATS in the Big East and 10-11-1 ATS overall. The total has stayed UNDER in five of its last seven outings.
While fatigue could be a major factor in this game, so could the fact that Butler is 220th in the nation in scoring (70 points) and 235th in shooting with a field-goal percentage of 43.3. The Bulldogs have been playing pretty well on defense all season long by holding opponents to 68.4 points a game, but scoring continues to be a major issue with less than 70 points in eight of their last nine games. Kellen Dunham leads the team with 16.8 points, but he is shooting just 38.2 percent from the field.
Creighton vs. Butler Betting Trends
The Bluejays are 17-8 ATS in their last 25 games following a SU win and the total has stayed UNDER in 13 of their last 18 road games.
The Bulldogs are 2-7 ATS in their last nine games following a SU loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five games at home. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five games following a SU loss.
The first time these two teams met this season, Creighton rolled to an 88-60 victory as a 10-point home favorite. The total went OVER the closing 139.5-point line.
Point Spread Pick
While the Bluejays have not been as solid a bet ATS as they were earlier in the season, it is hard to see Butler keeping this game close all the way through the second half. This is an excellent opportunity to take advantage of road favorite laying fewer points than it should as the Bluejays roll again to complete the season sweep.
