Dallas Mavericks vs. Utah Jazz Point Spread Pick

By

The Dallas Mavericks will try and extend their current winning streak to four games as they continue a strong push towards the playoffs against the Utah Jazz this Tuesday night at EnergySolutions Arena. The game is set to get underway at 9 p.m. (ET) and it will be available on NBA league Pass.

Point Spread: Dallas -7
Total Line: 200
Mavericks vs. Jazz Game Overview
Dallas has been in a heated battle all season long for a spot in the postseason and a late-season push has it holding down the seventh spot in the West with an overall straight-up record of 47-31. The Mavericks have now won four of their last five games with this past Sunday's 93-91 squeaker over Sacramento as 7.5-point road favorites. While they have done of good job winning on the court lately, betting on the Mavs has been a different story with a 2-4 mark against the spread in their last six outings. The total stayed UNDER the 200.5-point closing line against the Kings after going OVER in seven of their previous nine games.
The good news in Dallas is that this team remains fairly healthy heading into the most important time of the year. It also continues to do a solid job scoring points with an average of 105.1 a game, which is the eighth-highest total in the league. Playing defense is not this team's strong suit with a points against average of 102.6, which is ranked 21st in the NBA. Dirk Nowitzki continues to lead the way in scoring with 21.6 points per game.

Utah cashed-out of the playoff race months ago as it continues to bring up the rear in the Western Conference with an overall SU record of 24-53. The Jazz have shown little sign of playing the role of spoiler down the stretch with just two SU wins in its last 14 games. Wagering on the Jazz has not been all that much better with a 2-8-3 ATS record in their last 13 contests. The total has gone OVER in four of their last five games.
Playing at EnergySolutions Arena could be somewhat of an advantage for Utah with a 2-3 SU mark in its last five games in front of the home-town crowd, but as one of the worst teams in the NBA, it has given the fans little to cheer about. The Jazz are ranked second-to-last in the NBA in scoring with an average of 94.5 PPG. Gordon Hayward leads the team with 16.1 points and, all told, there are six different players scoring in double figures. Utah has played somewhat better on defense by holding teams to an average of 101.6 PPG, which is ranked 16th in the league.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Utah Jazz Betting Trends
The Mavericks are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against teams from the Northwest Division, but just 1-6 ATS in their last seven games following a SU win.
The Jazz are 1-4-2 ATS in their last seven home games and 0-2-2 ATS in their last four games following a SU loss. The total has gone OVER in five of their last seven games against a team from the Southwest Division.
Head-to-head in this matchup, the favorite is 17-8 ATS in the last 25 meetings and the total has gone OVER in seven of the last 10 games. Dallas has won all three games this season SU and it is 2-1 ATS.

Against the Spread Pick
When you breakdown this matchup and take into consideration some of the recent betting trends in this series, my first instinct would be to take the OVER on the total line. While I do not think you can go wrong with that play, my official pick is Dallas minus the eight points as it continues to firm up a favorable spot in the Western Conference playoff race.
