Dallas Mavericks vs. San Antonio Spurs Over/Under Pick

The No. 8 Dallas Mavericks will try and salvage a split in their first two road games against the No. 1 San Antonio Spurs this Wednesday night at the AT&T Center in Game 2 of this best-of-seven NBA Playoffs opening round series. Tip-off for this Southwest Division clash is set for 8 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on NBA TV.

Mavericks at Spurs Game Overview
Dallas hung tough in the series opener this past Sunday in a 90-85 loss as a nine-point road underdog. The total stayed UNDER the 202.5-point closing line. The Mavericks closed-out the regular season with two losses in their last three games both straight-up and against the spread with the total going OVER in two of the games. Their overall SU record on the road this season was 23-18 with a 24-17 record ATS.
The Mavs missed a golden opportunity to gain the early edge in this rivalry after opening up a 10-point lead in Game 1 with less than eight minutes to play. The team went ice cold from the field down the stretch including its leading scorer Dirk Nowitzki. He was held to just 11 points overall after missing four of six shots in the fourth quarter. Dallas shot just 41.2 percent from the field in that game and 33.3 percent from 3-point range.

San Antonio followed-up a 19-game SU winning streak in which it went a highly profitable 15-4 ATS with just three victories both SU and ATS in its final seven regular season games. That rust was apparent this past Sunday night in its first postseason contest. The Spurs are now 1-2 ATS in their last three home games and the total has stayed UNDER in their last two games at the AT&T Center.
The big concern heading into Wednesday's Game 2 was Tim Duncan's knee; however he has been listed as probable on the latest injury report. His knee took a hard hit in the third quarter of Sunday's win, but the veteran All-Star still managed to lead all scorers with 28 points. Tony Parker chipped-in another 21 points to go along with four rebounds and six assists. The Spurs had some major trouble of their own shooting the ball; hitting just 43.2 percent from the field and a woeful 17.6 percent from 3-point range on 17 attempts. San Antonio did do a good job under the boards by outrebounding the Mavericks 48 to 40.

Dallas at San Antonio Betting Trends
The Mavericks are 40-14 ATS in their last 54 games following a SU loss and 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games played in the conference quarterfinal round of the playoffs. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five road games.
The Spurs are 13-4 ATS in their last 17 games following a SU win and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games. The total has stayed UNDER in six of their last eight games at home.
Head-to-head in this matchup, the road team is 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in five of the last seven games.

Total Line Pick
Dallas has now lost its last six road games against the Spurs SU, but it is 3-1 ATS in the last four. While you probably cannot go wrong with a small play on the Mavericks to once again cover with the eight points, my top pick for Wednesday night's Game 2 is the UNDER on the total line. Look for another defensive battle between these two division foes that keeps the final score lower than the current posted 198-point line.
