This is the first meeting of the season between both sides. Most recently, the Nets defeated the Hawks outright as a three-point underdog by a score of 110-105 when Atlanta hosted Brooklyn in January.
Atlanta Hawks at Brooklyn Nets Overview
The Hawks come in off a 129-108 loss in Beantown on Friday when the Hawks fell in their second consecutive outing. The Birds closed as a 12-point underdog and failed to produce a cover in their third straight game.
The Nets come into this intra-conference collision on a high note. Brooklyn has won their last four games and has been kind to those that back them while doing so, as they have covered in their previous five contests. Most recently on Friday, Brooklyn defeated the Washington Wizards 125-118 as a 2.5-point favorite.
Reasons To Back Atlanta
As a result of Atlanta's abysmal 2-13 SU record on the road, takers are going to flee from the Hawks in this market, but they will find no refuge on the opposite end of the court as the Nets are just 5-10 SU in Brooklyn. This number is likely inflated alone by Atlanta's poor performance portfolio outside of the ATL which in turn bodes value. Furthermore, Brooklyn’s recent success in this series also affords the Hawks extra points in this contest.
Reasons To Avoid Brooklyn
When teams get hot, they set themselves up for overlays and overreactions. The Nets are in a position to fall prey to such an event after they have been a broken slot machine as of late to those that have backed them. As a result, we see the Nets getting in the range of spotting similar lumber to some of the better teams Atlanta has faced this year (Boston was a 7.5-point favorite on Atlanta’s court on November 23rd, and Golden State was a 10.5-point favorite in Atlanta) but Brooklyn by no means is in that discussion. In fact, the last time we saw Atlanta taking back eight points on the road they pulled an upset outright in Cleveland, though this was before the public learned how far the Cavs would fall without King James. However, hyperbole will become ripe here with Brooklyn owning wins over Philadelphia in the City of Brotherly Love (by just a three-pointer) and a home win against Toronto (though by a point in overtime) over their four-game winning streak. As a result, the public perception of this outfit could be skewed, and because of this laying, the points seems like an economical move. It would be a far different narrative had Brooklyn lost like they were supposed to against these two teams.
Hawks at Nets NBA Prediction 12/16/2018
What we have taking shape is a clear-cut overlay, and we can take advantage here by scoffing up the points. This game has upset potential written all over it as the Hawks will view this as a contest they can actually win. Brooklyn will have a tough time putting away what will be a scrappy counterpart.
