Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics NBA Pick - Odds and ATS Predictions
The Boston Celtics (17-10) will take on the hosting duties as they face off with the Atlanta Hawks (6-21) in an Eastern Conference collision set to take place at the TD Arena in Boston, Massachusetts. The tip is set for 7:00 PM ET and is scheduled to be aired on FSN for regional audiences. Between both sides, the Celtics have won four of the last five fixtures overall. The most recent episode in the ATL in November resulted in a 114-96 victory by the Celtics. Boston is 3-1 ATS in their last four contests between the two sides.
Atlanta Hawks at Boston Celtics Overview
The Hawks come in off a 114-107 loss as a 9.5-point underdog suffered at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday in the Metroplex. The loss marks Atlanta’s fifth loss in the previous six contests. Despite their overall poor form, Atlanta has covered in their last two outings.
The Celtics on a different note as they are white-hot. Boston has won their last seven games and has been kind to takers while doing so, as they have covered in each of these contests. Most recently on Wednesday, Boston defeated the Washington Wizards 130-125 in overtime as 3.5-point chalk.
Reasons To Back Atlanta
Given the overall poor form of Atlanta combined with the low expectations surrounding this team, the Hawks will be undervalued in a litany of circumstances. Against the team selected by many in the pre-season to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals on their own court, this propensity is that much greater for the Hawks to be taking back an inflated point spread. Overall, Atlanta has fared better against the spread than their straight-up record indicates, as Atlanta sits at 11-16 ATS.
Reasons To Avoid Boston
Given the lofty expectations surrounding the Celtics, a premium to back them can be anticipated in most scenarios. It is for this reason that Boston has a 14-13 ATS record compared to their better straight up record. Despite this, Boston has been a cash cow as of late, but this only sets up takers to lay more points in this game against an outfit in both literal and perceived contrasting form. Given how Boston has played at home overall and the fact they are 8-3 SU in Beantown this season, once again the propensity for an overlay is optimal.
Hawks at Celtics Prediction 12/14/2018
Atlanta will not be backing down from the challenge here against Boston and will play with an “everything to gain and nothing to lose” mentality. These teams are especially dangerous when they are taking back a likely-inflated number next to them. However, we have seen Boston get shocked in two of their three losses at home this season, as an 11.5-point underdog hosting Orlando in October and most recently on November 21st hosting the Knicks as a 14-point choice. Very simply, the Celtics cannot be trusted laying this kind of lumber despite their market appeal as the let-down possibility remains high in this affair.
