This compares to the 850 total laps led all last season. As a five-time winner this season, the No. 4 Ford has positioned itself as the team to beat for the 2018 Cup Series title. It is currently in second place in the standings with 537 total points. The lone drain on his high odds to win this Sunday is a pedestrian 12.7 average finishing position at Michigan. The last time Harvick won a Cup Series event here was in 2010.

With last week's third-place run at Pocono, Busch has now placed inside the top five in nine of his first 14 point-race events. Four of those runs ended with a trip to the Winner's Circle with the most recent victory coming just two weeks ago at Charlotte. The No. 18 Toyota is at the top of the list in total points with 624, and it has held the lead for 888 laps this season including 13 in last Sunday's race. Busch has held the lead at some point in 10 of his first 14 Cup Series events this year. When it comes to his recent track record at this Sunday’s racing venue, this has not been one of Busch’s most productive racing venues. The best finish in his last nine trips around this oval was seventh in this event last season.

Truex Jr. joined Harvick and Busch as the only multiple race winners this season. He will now try and match their ability to win races in consecutive events. Sunday’s win at Pocono was the ninth time the No. 78 Toyota has held the lead at some point during the race. It led for 31 laps including the all-important final lap of the day. Last week's performance moved Truex into fourth place in the standings with 487 total points, and it was his ninth run inside the top five. While he is still looking for his first career win at Michigan, last season was his best effort yet with a sixth-place finish in this event followed by a second-place run in the second event at this track in 2017.
