At 41-38 overall Oakland trails division-leading Houston by eight games in the AL West, but it's also only 2.5 games behind Cleveland in the battle for the second American League wild-card spot.
St. Louis, meanwhile, just took two of three games at home from the Angels over the weekend, missing out on the sweep by losing Sunday 6-4. The Cardinals then also had Monday off.
