The Yankees are coming off a three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners beating them 7-3 in the series finale. New York hit four HR in the game, and they scored their seven runs on 11 hits and Seattle scored three runs on only three hits.

This season the A’s rank 9th in runs scored and 6th in team ERA and the Yankees rank first in runs scored and 14th in team ERA.

Pitching Match-Up

Oakland: Brett Anderson (10-9 4.08 ERA)

New York: CC Sabathia (5-7 4.93 ERA)

The A's have lost three in a row with Anderson on the hill, and in his last start he gave up three earned runs on six hits in six innings in a 5-4 loss to the San Francisco Giants. While the A's only have one win in his last six starts, he has given up more than three earned runs in one of his previous five starts and in that game, he gave up four. Anderson has not faced the Yankees this season but does not have much success against them in his career, understatement, going 0-6 with an ERA of 6.86 in eight career starts facing them. Four of his last six starts have been at home and Oakland has won seven of his last eight road starts.

The Yankees have lost Sabathia's last four starts, and while he only lasted four innings in his previous outing, he was not bad giving up two earned runs in a 2-1 loss to the L.A. Dodgers. In his last three starts, he gave up 15 runs in 11 1/3 innings of work. Sabathia has failed to past four 1/3 innings in his previous four starts and over five starts since the All-Star break, he has given up 10 HR. In 32 career starts against the A's Sabathia is 11-12 with an ERA of 4.32. The Yankees have lost his last two home starts where he gave up seven earned runs in nine innings. However, New York is 6-2 in Sabathia’s last eight home starts against the A’s.

Team Info

The A's have won six of their last nine games, and while they are nine games back of the Houston Astros in the AL West, they hold the 2nd AL Wild Card only one game up on the Tampa Bay Rays.

The A’s swept the Yankees last week in a three-game home set outscoring them 17-9.

Oakland’s Marcus Semien is swinging a hot bat, as in his last four games he is 8 for 20 with two HR and 10 RBI.

The Yankees have won four straight and six of their last seven games after a losing five of six games, which included getting swept by the A’s out west. They are running away with the AL East 11 games up on the 2nd place Tampa Bay Rays and New York is tied with the L.A. Dodgers for the most wins in MLB.

In the last six games, the Yankees have hit 18 HR, and Aaron Judge has five of them. In sweeping the Mariners in their previous series, they outscored them 19-7 in the three games.

Key Player Injuries

A’S

OF Khris Davis is likely out for this game for personal reasons due to the birth of his child. CF Ramon Laureano is questionable for this game with a shin injury. These two have combined for 40 HR this season.

YANKEES

The Yankees have been hit hard by injuries this season but have kept on winning. 1B Luke Volt is just off the 10-day DL, and he will likely be available for this game while 3B Gio Urshela is listed as questionable with a groin injury. Star slugger Giancarlo Stanton has only played in nine games this season with a knee injury but is slated to return in mid-September.

A’s at Yankees Prediction 08/30/2019

Neither starter in this game has been pitching well in their last few starts, and Sabathia has had four straight starts where he did not make it to the 5th inning. The Yankees have been lighting up with the long ball and Judge has been on fire as of late. I don't think either starter will pitch that well in this game, but the Yankees will come out on top with solid bullpen work, and their lineup will get it done at the dish. New York will extend their win streak to five games taking the first game of this series and avenge getting swept by Oakland on the road last week.
