In Game 4 of this series yesterday, the Cubs took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd off Dodgers starter Alex Wood and never trailed in their 3-2 win. Woods was chased out of the game in the 5th after allowing his third home run of the game. Chicago starter Jake Arrieta was a little erratic giving up five walks, but he struck out nine and gotten taken deep once in 6 2/3 frames. Overall the Cubs scored three runs on five hits while the Dodgers mustered just two runs on four hits.

Pitching Match Up

L.A.: Clayton Kershaw (18-4 2.31 ERA)
Chicago: Jose Quintana (11-11 4.15 ERA)

Clayton Kershaw is the probable starter for the Dodgers in this game and he started Game 1 of this series giving up two earned runs on five hits in a 5-2 win. The Dodgers have won his last four starts, but he has not been lights out like usual and in his two post-season starts he has given up six earned runs in 11 innings of work for an ERA of 4.76. Kershaw did not have one of his best outings in his lone start in the regular season against the Cubs giving up four earned runs in four innings, but the L.A. lineup came through in the 9-4 win. Last season he split his two starts facing the Cubs in the NLCS and he has not pitched in a series clinching game since the 2013 season.

Jose Quintana is the probable starter for the Cubs tonight and he opposed Kershaw in the Game 1 going five innings and giving up two earned runs on only two hits in the 5-2 loss. The Cubs had won his other two post-season appearances, including one start, where he went five innings and gave up one earned run. Quintana came the Cubs in a trade with the Chicago White Sox in mid July and this season at home he had eight starts going 5-0 with an ERA of 4.76. His start in Game 1 of this series was his only one facing the Dodgers this season.

L.A. Dodgers vs. Chicago Cubs Prediction

The Dodgers lost Game 4 of this series and that snapped their eight-game win streak and was their first loss in the playoffs. Their pitching has still been throughout the series allowing eight runs over the four games. The Cubs avoided the series sweep with the Game 4 victory, but they are still on the brink of elimination and overall have lost four of their last six games. Their pitching staff had been lit up for15 runs in the first three games of this series before giving up the deuce last night. The Dodgers have their Ace on the mound tonight, but in this season’s playoffs and over his career he has not pitched like the “top gun” in the post-season. He has given up six earned runs in nine innings of work in two starts against the Cubs this season. I feel like he’ll come up big in this game with a strong start. The Cubs starter Quintana has been solid in the post-season and while I expect him to perform well, I’m banking on Kershaw to win the pitcher’s duel. I’ll be betting on Los Angeles to move on tonight to the World Series.
