Cubs-Braves MLB Betting Preview
Chicago just dropped two of three games at home to Milwaukee over the weekend, losing Sunday's series rubber match 6-0. The Cubs only trailed 1-0 into the ninth inning Sunday only to have the bullpen give up five runs, and that was it.
So after winning four games in a row last week, Chicago has lost two straight.
At 10-11 overall, the Cubs sit in fourth place in the NL Central, three games behind first-place Milwaukee.
Atlanta, meanwhile, just dropped two of three games at home to Arizona over the weekend after getting swept in a doubleheader Sunday by scores of 5-0 and 7-0. The Braves managed just one hit in Game 1 Sunday, then got no-hit (unofficially) by Madison Bumgarner in Game 2.
Going back a bit further, Atlanta is only 3-4 over its last seven games.
At 9-12, the Braves sit in third place in the NL East, two games behind the first-place Mets.
These two teams just met last weekend, when the Braves took two of three games from the Cubs at Wrigley Field. Davies took the loss for Chicago in the opener of that series.
Monday's Pitching Match-Up
New Brave Morton is 2/4 on quality starts this season. Last Tuesday, he held the Yankees to one run and three hits through six innings, although Atlanta lost that game 3-1. Just before that, he gave up five runs in six innings of a 6-5 Braves loss to Miami. So on the season, Morton has allowed ten runs on 20 hits and seven walks through 23 innings.
Atlanta is 1-3 with Morton this season.
This will be Morton's first start against the Cubs since 2014 when he was with Pittsburgh. And that's a long time ago.
New Cub Davies is 0/4 on quality starts this season. Last Tuesday, he gave up two runs on five hits and two walks through just four innings of a 16-4 Chicago win over the Mets. And over his last three starts, including a losing effort against Atlanta 10 days ago, he's been tagged for 13 runs on 17 hits and eight walks through just 9 2/3 innings.
On the season, the Cubs are 2-2 with Davies.
In his start against the Braves 10 days ago, Davies gave up four runs on seven hits and three walks through four frames of a 5-2 Chicago defeat.
Splits With the Sticks
The Cubs are batting just .204 against right-handed pitching this season, with a .300 team OBP and a .380 team slugging percentage. Chicago has also been hitting seriously hot-and-cold as of late; the Cubs have been held to three runs or less five times over their last ten games, but they've also scored 13, 16, and 15 runs during that span.
Atlanta is batting .228/.325/.420 against RH pitching this season. But as mentioned above, the Braves managed just one hit in 14 innings of action Sunday.
