2017 MLB Futures - World Series Title

The 2017 MLB regular season continues to wind down in anticipation of fall’s postseason run to a World Series title and the oddsmakers over at MyBookie have recently updated its MLB futures odds to win this year’s Fall Classic based on how some of the top contenders have been playing lately. This trick to cashing in a winning ticket is to find the best value in these updated odds.

2017 MLB World Series Favorite To Win

With solid pitching in both the starting rotation and throughout the bullpen complementing a lineup that knows how to put runs on the board, the Los Angeles Dodgers were one of the top favorites at MyBookie to win this year’s MLB World Series. However in light of their stellar play since early June, the current betting odds have this team listed as the clear favorite to win it all at +240.

While there has to be come concern with the long-term health of staff ace Clayton Kershaw, this team’s results on the field week in and week out is what adds the value to these betting odds. Kershaw pitches every fourth or fifth game, but going back to a 2-1 victory against Washington on June 7, the Dodgers have just nine losses over their last 58 games. At 84-34 in 118 games played this season, they are in the process of putting together a run for the ages all the way to a World Series title.

2017 MLB World Series Contenders

If there is one team that could derail LA’s run to a title it just might be the Boston Red Sox at +600 betting odds in what would be the ultimate dream matchup in this year’s Fall Classic. As of their 10-4 victory against St. Louis on Aug. 15, the Red Sox were 4.5 games up on the New York Yankees in the AL East Division race at 68-51, so they still have some unfinished business to avoid taking the wild card route in the playoffs. What makes Boston so attractive as a top contender pick is that same balance between strength in pitching complementing strength at the plate when it comes to scoring runs.

The Houston Astros still have the second-best odds to win the 2017 World Series at MyBookie at +425, but I happen to think the ship has sailed on this team with just five victories in their last 17 games. The Astros are not only playing poor baseball in every phase of the game, they are struggling with the fact that the front office did little or nothing to improve this roster before the recent MLB trade deadline.

Also in the mix as contenders is Cleveland at +600, Washington at +650 and the defending champion Chicago Cubs at +675. The Indians still have to hold off Minnesota and Kansas City to win the AL Central, but they remain a team to watch down the stretch. The Nationals are still a threat, but minor injuries continue to plague their pitching staff and they just lost their best hitter, Bryce Harper for an undisclosed amount of time. The magic that drove the Cubs to last season’s MLB title surfaced right after the All-Star break, but they have settled back into a very pedestrian groove with a 5-9 record through the first 15 days of August.

2017 MLB World Series Longshot

The Yankees still offer some value at +1000 odds given some of the players they added to the roster before the trade deadline, but if you really want to take a flyer on a longshot you have the Cardinals out there at +3000 betting odds to win their first World Series title since 2011. St. Louis has battled it way to within a game and half of the lead in the NL Central with a 9-4 record through mid-August and while it would need quite a few things to go its way to even get past the Division Series Round of the playoffs, this team still has a history of making things happen in the postseason.
