The Ottawa RedBlacks will be making a return trip to the Grey Cup title game this season out of the East to face the West’s Calgary Stampeders in this Sunday’s championship matchup. Kickoff from BMO Field in Toronto is set for 6 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.

Ottawa vs. Calgary Game Overview

Ottawa will be headed to its second-straight Grey Cup title game after losing to Edmonton last season by six points as a seven-point underdog. It was able to avenge that loss in last Sunday’s 35-26 victory against the Eskimos as 2.5-point home underdogs in the East Division Finals, but going back over the RedBlacks’ last seven games this was just their third win both straight-up and against the spread. The total has gone OVER in six of those seven contests.

Veteran quarterback Henry Burris got the start in last week’s game and while he did throw for 246 yards, he only connected on 57.7 percent of his 26 passing attempts. Ottawa got a big boost from its running game with Kienan LaFrance gaining 157 yards rushing on 25 carries. Overall, the RedBlacks averaged 27 points a game this season, but on the other side of the ball it gave up an average of 27.7 points a game.

Following a 26-26 tie against Ottawa in Week 3, the Stampeders proceeded to run off 14 SU wins before dropping a meaningless game to Montreal to close out their regular season. Any bettor’s along for the ride pocketed some serious cash with a 10-2 record ATS over the final 12 games of that winning streak. One of those victories came against the RedBlacks on Sept. 17 in a 48-23 romp as eight-point home favorites. The total went way OVER the closing 54-point total line in that game. Calgary comes into this game 16-2-1 SU with a 14-5 record ATS.

Stopping Calgary on offense could be just as hard as trying to score on the Stampeders’ defense. Led by Bo Levi Mitchell throwing the ball and Jerome Messam running it, this offense led the CFL in scoring with 32.6 points a game. Mitchell threw for 365 yards and three touchdowns in last Sunday’s 42-15 romp over British Columbia in the West Division Finals while Messam accounted for 84 of the team’s 166 yards on the ground. Calgary was also ranked first in the league this season in points allowed; giving up an average of 20.5 points a game.

The Stampeders have covered ATS in 10 of their last 13 games following a SU win and they have gone 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The total has gone OVER in seven of their last 10 games played in the postseason.

Ottawa RedBlacks vs. Calgary Stampeders Prediction

It will be a tall task for Ottawa to keep things close this Sunday at BMO Field against one of the most dominant teams in the recent history of the CFL. The only way Calgary loses this game is if it beats itself with turnovers and sloppy play. That has not been the case the entire season so I do not see any reason why that would be the case in the biggest game of the year.

Lay the nine points and go big with the Stampeders to put the finishing touch on one of the most impressive runs to a CFL title this league has ever seen.
