Super Bowl 9 Game Recap

It was a battle of two legendary defenses and two Halll of Fame quarterbacks.

In the end, Super Bowl IX was won 16-6 by Pittsburgh, as Minnesota failed for a third time to come through in the NFL's big game.

AFC champion Pittsburgh's Steel Curtain matched against Minnesota's Purple People Eaters. And the defensive hype proved true in Super Bowl IX, as a sack of Viking QB Fran Tarkenton in the endzone was the first half's only scoring.

The Steelers benefited forced another break to start the second half, as Minnesota's Bill Brown fumbled and Marv Kellum recovered for Pittsburgh on the Vikings' 30.

Franco Harris got the ball three straight times and he galloped in from nine yards for a 9-0 Steeler lead.

Minnesota got close in the second half, after a blocked punt was recovered in the endzone by Terry Brown for a touchdown. A missed point-after attempt left the score 9-6.

The Steelers sealed the win by taking the ensuing kickoff and marching 66 yards in 11 plays. Terry Bradshaw hit Larry Brown with 3:31 left for a touchdown and the Super Bowl IX win.

Franco Harris was named Super Bowl IX MVP and the Steel Curtain closed on Minnesota, who generated just 119 yards total offense. They got just 17 on the ground.
