Super Bowl VII RecapBetting Odds:
Super Bowl 7 Game Recap Miami's perfect season almost came undone in the final minutes of Super Bowl VII. After stifling Washington all game, permitting the Redskins across midfield only twice in the first half, a fumble recovery for a touchdown closed the game to 14-7. But Miami's No-Name Defense held up and the perfect season was preserved in a 14-7 Super Bowl VII victory. Miami began its first scoring drive from their own 37-yard line. Bob Griese marched them downfield and culminated the drive with a 28-yard touchdown pass to Howard Twilley. Washington threatened in the first half, but an interception by Dolphins linebacker Nick Buoniconti of a Billy Kilmer pass stifled that drive. The turnover led to several running plays and a one-yard TD plunge by Jim Kiick. Washington scored its only touchdown with 2:07 left after Miami flubbed a field-goal attempt. Mike Bass picked up the fumble and ran it 49 yards for a score. Scott had two interceptions, including an endzone pick that ended a Redskins' scoring drive. Miami defeated Pittsburgh in the AFC title game, noteworthy for the bizarre and controversial way that the Steelers made it that far. Their game in the divisional playoff against Oakland featured the Immaculate Reception, the fourth-and-10 desperation heave that saw Terry Bradshaw complete the bounce-around pass to Franco Harris. Pittsburgh won 13-7, after it appeared they were dead with 22 seconds left, no timeouts and the ball at their own 40 yard line. The pass bounced off fullback John Fuqua - and maybe Raider Jack Tatum - before settling into the hands of Harris who had rushed downfield to block. Final Score: 14-7
