Super Bowl 45 Game Recap

Green Bay hit the road on Wild Card weekend and just kept winning, capping their 2011 season with a 31-25 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Aaron Rodgers escaped Brett Favre’s shadow with a stellar playoffs, including three TD passes against the Steelers. He tossed two scoring strikes to Greg Jennings. Jordy Nelson had nine catches for 140 yards.

Pittsburgh rallied several times but couldn’t complete the task as Ben Roethlisberger finally tasted defeat in a Super Bowl. The game was played at the spectacular new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington Texas.

The Packers built a quick 21-3 lead and it looked like Super Blowouts had returned to the big game. But the Steelers battled back, nearly pulling off a back-door cover on the 3-point spread.

The game went easily over the closing total of 44.5, considered high at game time because of Pittsburgh’s second-rated defense.

The Packers won the coin toss (the 14th straight season the NFC had won the toss) when the Steelers called it wrong. Christina Aguilera botched the lyrics to the national anthem.

Snow and ice caused traffic snarls, canceled flights and caused injuries to six people when it fell from the roof of the stadium. Sunny skies and milder temperatures returned Sunday, but issues arose with seats at the game.

A total of 1,250 temporary seats were considered unsafe hours before kickoff. Even while the teams were warming up on the field, workers were trying to fix the problems -- many involving seats carrying pricetags of $800 and up.

Final Score: 31-25
Winning Side Bet: Packers -3
Winning Total Bet: Over 44.5
