Super Bowl 42 Game Recap

It was a day to wreck perfection for the New England Patriots and to wreck the profits enjoyed by the sportsbooks.

Eli Manning copied his brother's act from a year ago, winning the Super Bowl but doing it in far more dramatic fashion. New York upset the 18-0 New England Patriots 17-14, winning outright as 12.5-point underdogs in Super Bowl XLII.

Manning led the Giants on an improbable 12-play, 83-yard scoring drive, capped by Plaxico Burress's TD grab in the final minute. So much money had poured in on the Giants - much of it on the moneyline at upwards of +300 - that it was a deadly day for sportsbooks when the Giants won.

And the 1972 Miami Dolphins - those perfect Dolphins - cheered the result.

Tom Brady and the record-setting Pats had come to Glendale Arizona for Super Bowl XLII with an unbeaten season under their belts. But the Giants came in riding a 10-game road winning streak and had been covering road spreads all season.

When David Tyree made that insane reception on the final drive, it seemed the Giants were destined to win. A few plays later, Burress caught the fade pass for the winning score.

The Giants became the only NFC Wild Card team to win a Super Bowl (four AFC Wild Cards have turned the trick, most recently the Steelers).

Brady had set an NFL record by passing for 50 scores during the season and Randy Moss caught one with 2:43 remaining to give the Patriots the lead. But the Giants marched down for the win.

Final Score: 17-14
Winning Side Bet: NY Giants +12.5
Winning Total Bet: Under 55
