Super Bowl 39 Game Recap

New England became a dynasty in the eyes of many with its 24-21 over Philadelphia in Super XXXIX.

Deion Branch made 11 catches for 133 yards and the Eagles turned the ball over four times as New England matched the three-Super-Bowls-in-four-years trick that had been achieved only by Dallas.

The Patriots used a patchwork secondary - which often included wide receiver Troy Brown - to beat the Eagles, who finally got to the Super Bowl after losing the NFC championship game the previous three seasons.

They picked off Donovan McNabb in the first quarter, had it overturned by a penalty, then picked him off again on the next play to snuff out the first Eagles drive. The Eagles, who got Terrell Owens back from a broken leg for the game, scored first on an L.J. Smith six-yarder, but the Patriots answered back before halftime on a David Givens score from Tom Brady.

The teams swapped touchdowns - a Mike Vrabel catch by New England and a Brian Westbrook score for Philly - to make it 14-14. Super Bowl XXXIX MVP Deion Branch made several key grabs during the Patriot drive.

The Patriots went ahead 24-14, and the Eagles closed to within three on a Greg Lewis score. But the Eagles mismanaged the clock and McNabb was intercepted again to seal the loss.

McNabb was 30-for-51 for 357 yards and three touchdowns, but he was picked off three times as well.

Final Score: 24-21
