Super Bowl XXXVII RecapBetting Odds:
Super Bowl 37 Game Recap A defensive juggernaut is not supposed to put up 48 points in a Super Bowl. But when you intercept five passes and return three of them for touchdowns, the best offense can be a good defense. That's what happened in Super Bowl XXXVII as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers routed the favored Oakland Raiders 48-21. In the process, the Bucs scored 34 unanswered points and gave up just two first downs during a nine-possession stretch of the game. Dexter Jackson picked off two Rich Gannon passes and was named Super Bowl XXXVII MVP. Tampa Bay led 20-3 at the half, a surprise given Oakland's high-octane offense. Oddsmakers had them favored by four points in most places and if they had any hope of rallying after the break, it appeared to be snuffed out by a depressing eight-minute drive for a score followed by an interception return for a touchdown. But Jerry Porter caught a touchdown pass, the Raiders recovered a blocked punt for another score and Jerry Rice caught a 48-yard scoring pass with 6:06 left to trim the lead to 34-21. But two more interceptions returned for scores ended the threat and Tampa Bay had their first Super Bowl title, Brad Johnson was 18-for-34 for 215 yards for Tampa, while Michael Pittman carried 29 times for 124 yards. Final Score: 48-21
