Super Bowl 34 Game Recap

The Tackle saved Super Bowl XXXIV from going to overtime and saved victory for the St. Louis Rams.

Mike Jones grabbed wide receiver Kevin Dyson on a slant pattern just before the goal line as time expired and the 13-3 Rams completed a dream season.

The Rams, guided by NFL MVP Kurt Warner, drove into the red zone with their first six possessions, but scored just 10 points. The high total of 47.5 was never touched, due to Tennessee's stingy defense and some Ram miscues.

The Rams led 9-0 at the half, despite a lopsided 294-89 edge in total yards. They would be sorry for letting Steve McNair and the transplanted Houston Oilers hang around.

Tennessee scored twice after the break on Eddie George runs, before Warner hooked up with Isaac Bruce with two minutes left on a long score for a 23-16 lead.

Undaunted, the Titans drove to the Rams 10-yard line with just six seconds remaining. Without a timeout, McNair hit Dyson on a quick slant. He caught it at the 3-yard line, but Jones made a great diving wrap to keep him out of the endzone.

Warner, who had played in the Arena Football League and NFL Europe before getting a chance in the preseason with Rams starter Trent Green got hurt, was named Supeer Bowl XXXIV MVP.

He was 24-for-45 for 414 yards, with Bruce making six of the catches and covering 162 of the yards. Rookie Torrie Holt had 7 catches for 109 yards.

McNair was splendid, completing 22 of 26 passes for 214 yards. But he needed 215 yards to force the tie.

Final Score: 23-16
