Super Bowl 21 Game Recap

Big Blue defeated the Orange Crush in a Super Bowl XXI battle pitting future Hall of Fame quarterbacks John Elway against Phil Simms.

The NFC champion New York Giants won their first NFL title since 1956 by handling the AFC champion Denver Broncos 39-20.

Led by Simms, the Super Bowl XXI MVP, New York overcame an early 10-9 deficit to win easily. The victory over John Elway, who was 13 of 20 for 187 yards in the first half, was highlighted by a 22-for-25 performance by Simms and culminated a season that saw linebacker Lawrence Taylor named NFL MVP.

Denver opened the scoring with a 48-yard field goal, but the Giants countered quickly with a 78-yard drive and a 6-yard touchdown pass to tight end Zeke Mowatt. It was the New York defense that turned the tide of the game, stopping Denver for zero points from first-and-goal at the 1-yard line.

The Giants rolled up 30 points after the Super Bowl XXI halftime show, which was a salute to 100 years of Hollywood.

New York's Joe Morris led all rushers, gaining 67 yards on 20 carries, while Denver wideoutr Vance Johnson had five catches for 121 yards.

Final Score: 39-20
Winning Side Bet: New York Giants -9.5
Winning Total Bet: Over 40
