Super Bowl 20 Game Recap

Ironic that the Bears offense would score 46 points, when it was the team's vaunted 46 Defense that got them to Super Bowl XX.

The NFC champion Chicago Bears romped to a 15-1 mark and two easy playoff wins in looking for their first title since 1963.

While it looked bad early - Walter Payton fumbled on the second play of the game and the Patriots scored a field goal - it quickly became obvious that the Cinderella Patriots would not be leaving the ball happy.

The Bears sacked Steve Grogan seven times and the Patriots managed a record-low seven rushing yards as the Bears easily covered the 10-point Super Bowl XX spread. The game played OVER the closing total of 37.5.

The Bears led 23-3 at the half and boasted a 236-19 advantage in offensive yardage. Bears QB Jim McMahon scored two touchdowns and William 'Refrigerator' Perry scored on a goal-line plunge for Chicago in the 46-10 win.

If there was any hope of a Patriot comeback, it was snuffed early with a 96-yard drive and touchdown by the Bears. Fittingly, the final margin of victory was provided by three defensive plays: a 28-yard interception return by reserve cornerback Reggie Phillips, the Perry touchdown, and a safety.

Bears defensive end Richard Dent was named Super Bowl XX MVP, becoming the fourth defender to be honored. He had 1.5 sacks in the Super Bowl XX rout, which put head coach Mike Ditka in the winning circle for the third time: once as a player with Dallas and once as an assistant coach with Dallas.

Wide receiver Willie Gault caught four passes for 129 yards.

Final Score: 46-10
Winning Side Bet: Chicago -10
Winning Total Bet: Over 37.5
