Super Bowl 18 Game Recap
There would be no Super Bowl repeat for the powerful Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII.
Despite boasting a squad that looked better than its Super Bowl XVIII winner, the Redskins were crushed 38-9 by the AFC champion Los Angeles Raiders.
It was the most lopsided win in Super Bowl history, ahead of the Packers 35-10 win over Kansas City in Super Bowl I.
It started badly - the Raiders blocked a Jeff Hayes punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown in the first quarter - and got worse as Oakland quarterback Jim Plunkett fired a 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Cliff Branch.
Then, with just seven seconds left in the half, Joe Theismann was picked off on his own 5-yard line and Los Angeles had a 21-3 halftime lead.
After the break, it was Marcus Allen time for Oakland. The Super Bowl XVIII MVP ran for a Super Bowl-record 191 yards on 20 carries. He scored from five yards out and again on a 74-yard ramble later.
The 38 Raider points set a Super Bowl record, surpassing the 35 scored by Green Bay in Super Bowl I.
Final Score: 38-9
Winning Side Bet: Los Angeles Raiders +3
