Super Bowl 17 Game Recap

John Riggins ran for more than 100 yards for the fourth straight playoff game and Washington won Super Bowl XVII 27-17 over Miami.

The power fullback gained 166 yards on 38 carries to win Super Bowl XVII honors in the strike-shortened season of 1982.

Washington was guided by coach Joe Gibbs and got tremendous production from Riggins to go along with the aerial attack generated by QB Joe Theismann.

Miami led 17-10 at halftime, on the heels of a 76-yard TD bomb from David Woodley to Jimmy Cefalo. The Redskins also enjoyed and a Super Bowl-record 98-yard kickoff runback in the final two minutes of the half.

Riggins scored on a 43-yard gallop on fourth-and-one, while wide receiver Charlie Brown snared a short scoring pass from Theismann as well.

The Dolphins created little offense as Woodley and backup Don Strock were just 4-for-17 in passing.

Final Score: 27-17
Winning Side Bet: Washington +3
