Super Bowl 15 Game Recap

It was a wild time for Oakland and another sporting heartbreak for the city of Philadelphia.

Jim Plunkett completed his revival from 1970 Heisman Trophy to has-been to Super Bowl MVP when he took over from Raider starter Dan Pastorini early in the year and guided the Raiders to a 27-10 win in Super Bowl XV.

Plunkett's three scoring passes included an 80-yard strike to Kenny King and the Raiders became the first Wild Card team to win the Super Bowl.

Oakland, three-point underdogs at the Superdome, led 14-0 in the first quarter and linebacker Rod Martin picked off three Ron Jaworski passes in the victory.

Neither Plunkett, who was named Super Bowl XV MVP, nor the Raiders expected to be at Super Bowl XV. Plunkett became the starter in the sixth game of the season after Pastorini broke his leg and he guided the Raiders to a 9-2 mark.

But in the AFC title game, Cleveland was set to oust Oakland when the infamous Red Right 88 play doomed the Browns. Brian Sipe forced a pass to Ozzie Newsome which was picked off in the endzone of a 14-12 loss. The Browns later admitted a lack of confidence in their placekicker forced their hand.

Oakland defeated Houston 27-7 at home followed by road victories over Cleveland (14-12) and San Diego (34-27) to advance.

The Eagles were led by running back Wilbert Montgomery and WR Harold Carmichael, but could not get much going against the Raider defense.

Martin's three 3 interceptions were a Super Bowl record.

Final Score: 27-10
Winning Side Bet: Oakland +3
Winning Total Bet: Under 37.5
