Super Bowl 13 Game Recap

It was lucky No. 13 for Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XIII.

But it was far from lucky for sportsbooks, who revile this game as Black Sunday.

The Super Bowl XIII betting odds opened at -3.5 and was bet up to -4.5 during the week. Quickly, a doomsday scenario loomed where a Pittsburgh win by four points would pay out almost all bettors.

Sure enough, it happened as the final showed 35-31.

Terry Bradshaw passed for a four scores to lead the Steelers to their third Super Bowl win in five seasons.

Bradshaw was selected Super Bowl XIII MVP after hitting 17 of 30 passes for 318 yards. He threw a pair of scores to John Stallworth before halftime and Rocky Bleier caught another as Dallas trailed 21-14 at the break.

Roger Staubach hit Tony Hill for a TD and a 37-yard fumble return by linebacker Mike Hegman kept Super Bowl XIII close.

But it didn't stay close when the fourth quarter arrived. Franco Harris ran 22 yards for a score and Pittsburgh got the ball right back when the kickoff was fumbled and Dennis Winston recovered for the Steelers. Bradshaw went for the throat right away, firing an 18-yard pass to Lynn Swann to boost the Steelers' lead to 35-17 with 6:51 to play.

To their credit, the Cowboys refused to die. Roger Staubach hit Billy Joe DuPree for a 7-yard scoring pass with two minutes left, then took them for another score after recovering an onside kick to make it 35-31 - the precise score the sportsbooks in Las Vegas were dreading.

Bleier fell on the subsequent onside kick attempt to preserve the Super Bowl XIII win for the Steelers. Pittsburgh would win again the next year to etch their place in history as one of football's true dynasties.

Final Score: 35-31
Winning Side Bet: Pittsburgh -3.5
Winning Total Bet: Over 37
