Super Bowl 1 Game Recap
The Green Bay Packers, guided by the passing of Bart Starr, the receiving of Max McGee, and a defensive stop by all-pro safety Willie Wood, won Super Bowl I with an easy 35-10 romp over the AFL champion Kansas City Chiefs.
Green Bay ran away with the game behind three second-half touchdowns. The first was set up by Wood's 50-yard return of an interception of a Len Dawson pass.
McGee was a late replacement for Boyd Dowler and made the most of his Super Bowl I opportunity after catching just four passes all season. He grabbed seven passes from Starr for 138 yards and a pair of scores. Elijah Pitts ran for two other scores.
Kansas City's scoring all came in the second quarter. Dawson threw the lone Chief score to Curtis McClinton who grabbed a seven-yard TD pass. Starr, who was chosen Super Bowl I MVP, completed 16 of 23 passes for 250 yards and two TDs.
The Packers earned $15,000 per player and the Chiefs' $7,500-the largest single-game shares in the history of team sports.
Final Score: 35-10
