NASCAR Betting and Wagering on Wimbledon- June 20
By SPORTSBETTING.COM
Let's be honest, as much as everyone loves the summer weather, betting options can be slim between mid-June and August.
The Larry O'Brien trophy has been awarded to the Boston Celtics; the Stanley Cup is being passed down along the Detroit Red Wings food chain; the NFL is in minicamp mode; college football is a few months from beginning and as much as we love betting on MLB a change of pace is always nice.
But this week serves up a couple of intriguing events bettors will be interested in: Wimbledon and NASCAR.
NASCAR Toyota/Save Mart 350
Interleague baseball will be front and center on Friday and Saturday, but Sunday will see the running of NASCAR's Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California.
Even though he won the LifeLock 400 last week, Dale Earnhardt Jr., who is also third in Sprint Cup standings, is paying out at 40-1 for this week's race at SPORTSBETTING.COM while Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart are the odds-on favorites both at 4-1.
Both Stewart and Gordon are seeing the most action from bettors heading into the weekend, with 15% of the volume on Gordon and 18% on Stewart so far.
Kyle Busch is currently the Sprint Cup Series leader with 2,213 points and is at 20-1 to take the Toyota/Save Mart 350 and 7-2 to win the Sprint Cup Championship outright.
Robby Gordon is 10-1 to take the checkered flag in Sonoma, but a Top 3 finish could be in the cards, he is currently 3-1 for that prop.
Former CART driver and 2007 Indy 500 champ Dario Franchitti is now in the NASCAR circuit and hasn't been doing as well in his new No. 40 Chip Ganassi Dodge. Mr. Ashley Judd is a long shot at 60-1 to win the Toyota/Save Mart 350.
Check out the odds for head-to-head matchups this weekend leading up to the green flag dropping.
Wimbledon 2008
As the No. 1 seeds for both the men's and women's sides for this year's Wimbledon (which starts on Monday) were announced there was a distinct French flavor.
Not to say that either was of French descent but rather the top male and female both were in the finals of the French Open at Roland Garros a few weeks back.
Red clay might as well be red kryptonite for Superman Federer.
He has lost the last three French Opens to Rafael Nadal but Wimbledon is a different creature.
The world's No. 1 men's player seems at home on the grass courts of the All England Club and has taken the last five consecutive men's titles even taking down Nadal in last year's final.
SPORTSBETTING.COM fittingly has Federer at even money to take yet another Wimbledon title.
On the ladies side, 2008 French Open champion Ana Ivanovic has the honor of getting top spot in the women's draw but that doesn't mean she will get Roger Federer-like odds for Wimbledon 2008. Ivanovic is currently listed at 5-1.
Maria Sharapova has already taken a Grand Slam event this season, with a win at the Australian Open, where she ironically enough defeated Ana Ivanovic, and she won it all at the All England Club four years ago. Sharapova is listed at 9-4.
The Williams sisters always seem to do well at Wimbledon, taking a combined six of the last eight women's titles, in fact, Venus Williams is the defending women's champion.
If Venus wins she'll pay out at 9-2, if Serena wins it will be at 5-2.
Summer's here, so enjoy it, as we wait for football to start, there is still plenty of wagering options. Good luck with your bets this weekend.
