Portugal eked out a 1-0 win over Croatia in the round of 16 scoring in the 117th minute to advance and they are a betting favorite in the quarters facing Poland.

Poland won on penalties in their round of 16 match with Switzerland after the match ended 1-1 in regulation time. The one goal they conceded was their first in the tournament.

Portugal had played to three draws in their three group matches before beating Croatia in the round of 16. After scoring two goals and having an assist in the last group match facing Hungary Cristiano Ronaldo did not find the twine in the Croatia match, but after his shot was deflected Quaresma buried the easy header for the lone goal.

Portugal is going for their 4th European Championship semifinals in their last five tournaments. They have the individual talent, but do not play a great team game. They had very few chances in the match with Croatia, which was a very defensive battle. That may be the case again facing a Poland team that has only conceded one goal in the tournament.

Poland has had to rely on their defense in this tournament, as in their four matches they have only scored three goals. Poland’s best player in Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski has failed to make a mark in this tournament after leading all players in goals in Euro qualifying. The Polish attack has been lacking and look for them to rely on the counter-attack for scoring chances, which may be few and far between for both teams.

Poland vs. Portugal Free Pick

For Poland Chelsea GK Wojciech Szczesny is still out with an injury, but Łukasz Fabiański has been solid in his absence.
Look for the exact same match in this one as the Portugal vs. Croatia encounter. Both teams will be very cautious and there will not be much action in the shots-on-goal department. Neither team will break through and it will go to penalties after scoreless regulation where Portugal will advance.
